Anyone have a range report yet? I'm not a piston conversion fan but the Ruger with it's one piece bolt looks interesting. The adjustable gas block looks interesting also.

I don't know if I would trust anyhthing from Ruger until they recall it. Thats what they seem to do everytime they come out with a new gun.
True but then again some of the recalls really weren't all that necessary, kinda like adding the little glock esq type trigger safety on the SR9... I guess its more safe now....
I am a fan of piston ARs though they really cut down on the whole "self fowling" problem. and the newer designed ones dont have the carrier tilt problem that the early designs did. Its simply the next step in the evolution of the weapon type.
I guess you could say this is the "new" direction ruger is taking now that ol Bill is gone. (love him or hate him) The same company that wouldnt sell hi cap mags to civilians and supported the assault weapons ban....
but politics aside, what is with with the ugly child mixture of hi end parts fromTroy Industries and Magpul along with bargain bin CAA and Tapco.

Had a Daewoo awhile back and It was a fine rifle never jammed. Now I have a new Ruger SR-556 and it's a dream to shoot, and not spend half a day cleaning receiver.
I was talking to a salesman at Red's Trading Post (Twin Falls, ID) who just got back from a training school in Nevada. In the group he was in only two brands had no problems with malfunctions from Sand, dust & fouling, They were FN Scare & the Ruger SR-556.
I have one and I love it. There seems to be a lot of hearsay from Ruger haters. I have about 1200 rounds through it without any problems so far.
I'm interested in one. It looks like they did the gas piston right, that and the one piece bolt should make a very trouble free rifle. I've asked at my local shops about it, they haven't a clue.
Does it run as cool as I have read?

It's a mid-grade AR with a ton of expensive accessories and a piston system. Look into POF, Addax GPU, many have more "milspec" features. I was excited about the SR556 until I saw how much it cost. IMHO it's a good, but not a great thing.

Color me a Ruger hater. It may be fine, but so are the other dozen makers.
As far as politics go...
Bill Ruger is dead and so are his anti gun politics and companywise Ruger's new leadership is trying to play catch up and cut into the defense market rather than devote all their resources into the "sportsman/hunters market" with their LCP, LCR, SR9 hi cap, and now this.
It seems a decent rifle but you can have a reliable AR for less elsewhere.
As for the piston upper Id rather take an LWRC. Expensive yes but unlike Rugers, they are on the cutting edge with tons of design expirience, especially in the Piston upper market and they are not playing catch up.
In regards to Ruger's other products, I love my SP101, GP100, and LCP... But for their new AR I think Ill go elsewhere for now.
