Need help with long range shooting

I've hunted all my life but i just now got into target shooting. I bought a ruger m77 mkII .270 win and got a custon shilen barrel and trigger job on it. Barrel took 8 months to get cause of its size, its only 2 sizes smaller at the end than if you keep the barrel the same size from chamber to end. 1 in 10 twist trigger is 2 lbs. pull, swift 3-9x40mm scope. I load my own bullets, 140 gr. sierra gameking sbt H1000 63.5 gr. hornady cases. I,ve killed deer with it at 225 yd +- but only seen what it will do own paper at 100 yds. Which is 1/4 in 5 shot groups, i've shot the bullseye out of a 50 yd. nra slow rate pistol target at 100 yds in 10 shots with no barrel cool down. So i defiently want to see how it performs at further distances like 500 and 600 yrds. Any suggestions on Scopes with BDC reticles or tips to help with the transition to long ranges besides shoot! shoot! shoot! lol. Oh yea in case your wondering i still hunt with the rifle when i hunt. I'm not carrying the heavy thing around all day lol.

Thanks...But do you think the circles would be as accurate as the lines like zeiss and burris use?

I've used three types of scopes, a red dot, a cross hairs, and a dot within cross hairs. For accurate shooting on paper, I prefer cross hairs. The dot within cross hairs scope drove me nuts, I keep losing the dot on the black targets, and the lit reticle option doesn't show well during the day.

You don't really need BDC scopes, a notebook is probably better. If you are target shooting then you know the distances and don't need to worry about range estimating.
Once you've got your zero, then the rest is easy as long as you write everything down.

I read somewhere that you can obtain a custom reticle for your caliber/barrel length from Leopold, either on one of their new scopes or they will retrofit such a reticle to your existing Leopold scope. Don't rely on me, though; call Leopold and check it out if you are interested in going in that direction.

Good shooting and good for you for trying to reach out 5-600 yards.

I checked the leupold site out and your right about the custom reticle...thanks for the post
