Ruger 1911 "rumors circulating"

Been checking out some other forums, talk is Ruger is going to introduce a "1911".

Some of the talk is that in the latest issue of Backwoods Home Magazine Nov/Dec2009, supposedly Massad Ayoob writes that Ruger is ready to introduce a low-price, high-quality 1911.

Has anyone else heard of this?

I'm a bit skeptical of this as low-price seems to be a thing of the past for Ruger, despite Bill Ruger's original intentions. BTW, welcome to G&G!

Welcome to the site !! I agree with toolman about inexpensive. And remember Ayoob is a rag-writer who likes to upstage other writers.

Well, Ruger has already introduced a Striker-Fired polymer pistol, an AR style gun, and a Poly-Pocket .380 - why not jump on the bandwagon with a 1911. Meh...

I seriously doubt they could alter the formula for a 1911 anymore than the market needs (but beliives it wants), and I do not believe they could get the pricepoint down to compete with the imports.
The P90 always had a reputation for being more accurate than it deserved to be, and that P345 isn't too bad either (just elusive on dealer shelves). I just imagine them to upgrade the SR series to .45 Auto (just please don't make it a double stack magazine!).

I don't care for the AR Ruger manufactures, but their bolt action rifles, P- series pistols, and revolvers are top notch.

I love Ruger, but don't know if I could warm up to a 1911 made by them, just doesn't seem right, kind of like their AR.

I would love to see Ruger come out with a 1911 for under, say, $650. Doubt that will happen, probably won't be under $900.

I don't see Ruger doing this, since the gun companies are run by bean counters these days. It wouldn't make a dent in the overall 1911 market share. Just too much competition. Reckon the days of Ruger being on the leading edge are over.

I'm not sure If I would got for a 1911 made by them or not. I love a lot of the guns they make, especially their revolvers, but with my 1911's I think I am just partial to other brands.

I have always considered Ruger as the premier revolver manufacturer, especially in larger calibers. But since last year they have relly come out from their own box. Taurus hit a home run with their low cost 1911, why not Ruger? It makes perfect sense, no need for large ammounts of money spent on R&D, the 1911 design is almost 100 years old, no need to spend money to develope a market all you need to do is some re-tooling on a factory you already own, and bring a product to market that is competive with other brands.
I am actually thinking of getting an in-expensive 1911, for too long the 1911 has been an expensive pistol out of reach for most shooters, I was looking at the Taurus, but a comprable Ruger 1911 for under $700.00. I think the reason most people don't usually buy a 1911 as their first gun is due to the fact that they don't think they will get a good 1911 pistol unless they spend over $900.00. The market needs more quality 1911 pistols for under $700.00, that come from reputable big name companies like Ruger.

Yeah ruger will do a bang up job.
The gun will be 300 buckd but the magazines will be 50 bucks. And they willnot be regular 1911 mags.

Disclaimer. This is tounge in cheek regarding the mini14

Stailess steel, under $600, GI Spec, and NO MAGAZINE SAFETY (or trigger safety, or loaded chamber indicator if you can swing it) - then you have my attention.

I hope they do. NO ONE is making 1911s except for SW, Colt, Springfield, ParaArms, Taurus, Wilson, Kimber, Dan Wesson, Sig and probably a few others I can't remember right now.

Ruger has perfected investment casting so I would'nt be surprised if they came out with a 1911.
I sometimes wonder why they don't come out with a pump or semi-auto shotgun...A.H

I hadn't thought of it before, but I bet Ruger would make a dandy pump gun.
