Looks like a more elegant version of the old USAF Mark VI survival gun. Single shot superposed, .22 LR over .410, break action, shell storage in the stock. Might be worth investigating to add to the survival gun battery.

I had one of those growing up and loved it. Picked it up for under $100 and had a blast shooting tree rats all day long.

Over the years Savage and a few others produced a great many of this design in various calibers and gauges.
I would not say they became super popular but they did have a demand for a very, very long time.
The first gun of this type I encountered was owned by my grandfather for use on his south Texas farm. He always liked it and used it for varmit control plus squirrel hunting. He shot it enough to get good with it.
