Jason, I thought all firearms were confiscated by the government a few years ago in your country. What is the story, if short enough to tell on this forum? Best Wishes

no mate. not all. brief story is this:

a guy went nuts in a small tourist attraction in Tasmania in 1996, and killed 35 people with an AR-15 and several other firearms. The fed government used the outrage to run through new gun laws that made it more or less impossible to legally own automatic and semi-automatic firearms. everyone who had them had to hand them in to the authorities.

we can still own non-semi auto rifles (if you go through the licensing hoops). there are various restrictions on hand-guns too, but i don't shoot them and so am not completely sure what those restrictions are.

but it's the old story down here - killings continue from the criminal element, coz thats what they do. meanwhile, the law-abiding are targeted because we can be reached.

there are some curious circumstances around the original massacre, and the conspiracy theorists naturally have their ideas. but the gov keep marginalising us - there is now a proposal to ban the import of military-style rifles, which is a complete joke. the admission is that they are acting on appearance, not effect, but try to justify it because "the public feel threatened by evil-looking weapons".

the fight goes on. don't ever surrender your right to bare arms.

Thanks For The Explanation

I appreciate you taking the time to explain this. Thank you. My son and I are mainly collectors, but do some shooting about once a year. Our collection starts with an 1849 Colt Pocket Model thru WWII, and a few modern guns (rifles, shotguns, & handguns) of all kinds. Best Wishes!

I thought Tasmania was a separate country from Australia.

Of course, all we know about the area comes from Crocodile Hunter, Crocodile Dundee, and Tasmanian Devil cartoons...

Hey guys,

First post here and this seems like the right place to ask a question about the savage 219, 22 hornet. I received this gun as part of a gun lot from my grandpa. Still shoots incredibly well, just one question. It has a side mounted scope on it with a stamp bearing "T1." The rings are sized for a 3/4" scope and i was wanting to bump up to a 1".

I'm looking for some info on the T1 base mount. Is it factory and if so what base mount can I replace it with?

I'm trying to avoid a trip to a gunsmith to get a custom scope mount so any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Scope Base

Weaver makes a two piece base for this rifle. The barrel would have to be drilled and tapped with two holes for each base. I think the Weaver bases are really low priced. I have not purchase any for years. Best Wishes.

Finally found this site again

I put a post on here awhile back when I found a 219 with the 30/30 barrel rechambered to the 30/40 Krag AI. I came up with another question, I found a Springfield 947 .410 shotgun and it breaks down just like the 219 and looks to have the same barrel lug. Anyone know if the can be interchanged? It does have and exposed hamer and side lever, to me it looks like the 219L's they made. I hope I can make it back with my 219 to see how it fits before it is gone. Just figured I'd ask.

Gotta love these old guns.

410 barrel

Hey just to fill you in I made it back to the shop before he closed last night and took a micrometer with me along with my 219 and barrels. The 410 barrel lug was a hair to wide to fit in my 219 but after using the mic and measureing all of the barrel lugs, the 3 I have differ in width .007" the 410 lug was .002" wider than the widest (30-40) that I had. all of the barrels I had would lock into the frame of the 947 though. I am buying the 410 and will pollish the lug and see how it goes then. It may be ahwile but I will fill you in if a Springfield 947 barrel will fit these 219's. If so it may open up a small range of easier to find barrels for these guns.

Hey I found a 220 with a long 20ga barrel if anyone is interested I already have one and don't have the money to pick this one up too. It has a very good finish, looks original and clean, he wants $250 if anyone is interested. Could bargin with him a bit I'll bet, just a guess. It is in Green River WY, I live in Evanston about 100 miles west of him.

Hello dleeper

I have been watching it right along. I have no Interest in the 20 Gauge Gun you spoke of though.. I Like 12 Gauge ones and have my Grandfathers in it. I also have a 219 In .22 Hornet that is a Real tack driver. Here is a recent target fired at 50 Yards using Hand loads. it is a three shot string... I also always figured that the newer Model Savage 94 shotgun Barrels would fit onto a 220 Frame, so never Prersued the Springfield Brand you spoke of, But thanks for sharing that Information as I was not aware that Springfield and Savage Interchanged. I would bet that Springfield Brand was made by either savage or Stevens..Hammerdown

Nice group. Aren't most of the Savage 94's Over/Unders? I could be wrong on that, a little out of it today. By the way the Springfield does have Stevens stamped on there as well, thus Savage. I will have to take another look to tell you exactly what it says on it.

A question, Hammer Down, if I may. I recently lost the rear sight steps off my 219; since there are several different models of the rifle, are the dimensions of the steps identical in all cases, or are there variations?

Talking

Wow I really enjoyed reading this. I have a model 219 30-30 and LOVE it. it was given to me when I first started hunting by my stand in Dad whose now passed. I refinished the stonk in high school.

I would buy anouther if I ever find one. I have 10 yr old twins who enjoy shooting.

I don't have the 20 ga. barel for mine but I know where it is and hope to get it soon.

Thans for the resource.
