.223 scopes

I have a Stevens .223 Model 200 that's very accurate with the Simmons6.5-20x-44AO scope(adjustable objective). Scope costs $90. I would like to get the AO off the rifle and go with a fixed objective scope because the AOs are a nuisance to adjust. However, finding an affordable scope with enough power to plink and varmint hunt is hard to do. I actually like the 20x on the cheap Simmons for plinking but that's too high for hunting in the woods. Anybody have any low to mid price scope ideas they can suggest? I have 3 different AO scopes and feel that they are only good on a range. I probably won't buy another AO. I love the fixed objective scopes. You just point and the target is in focus instsantly. If you need more power you just reach up and turn the eyepiece scope ring. Adjusting an objective is a long long reach. Sometimes I can hardly reach that far.

Simmons makes a great scope for the money, i have one on a couple of my guns. A 3-9 or 4.4-12 would be perfect for what you need. If you want to go up in price a Nikon or Burris fullfield ll would be a good choice, both around 350$.

Well I have a Cabelas Pine Ridge, I think it was 150 dollars with a 6-18 power. It seems really clear and bright, and it sighted in really good. or you could try a Nikon Prostaff. I was looking at those the other day, and liked what I saw.

I have a Prostaff on my Stevens .270. It's a very well made scope but the tube length is short. It is not as easily fitted. It likes the short actions better than the long actions no doubt yet it now sits on a long action.
The .223 is short action. I keep moving the Nikon to different rifles. It started on a .243 HandiRifle. Maybe I need a second Prostaff? The 4-12x or 4-14x or 4-18x scopes by Burris and other companies are roughly twice the price of the Prostaff but they seem more 223ish. That is they are more of a varmint distance scope.

As far as the Simmons or Pine Ridge scopes are they good at holding zero over time? The Prostaff will hold a zero forever.

If you can't spend $800 on a scope it's hard to settle on the proper scope. Only two of my five rifles have scopes that I know will always be on them. The other three have scopes that I don't like(AOs)

Have you thought about a side focus?

I bought one for $125 but it broke immediately during zeroing 2 yrs ago and I haven't dared to try another yet. It was a Leapers. Don't waste your money on a Leapers. Since then I got used to fixed objectives. My experience with scopes is limited. I've learned much of what I know about them from folks in this forum. It's more cost efficient to ask tips from posters like you than to go out and buy experimentally on my own I learned.

Yeah, that's true. You might check out Telescopes Microscopes Sunglasses Rifle Scopes Night Vision Binoculars Radar Guns Rangefinders Cameras & more!.

There site is kinda messy, but they have some good prices. Maybe you will find something there. Good luck.

I have a Barska on my Bushmaster. Good scope. I have the 10-40x50mm.

Barska 10-40x50 IR SWAT Extreme Tactical Riflescopes 50mm w/ Rings AC10550 w/ FREE UPS

They have some smaller AO models that are good priced, I think they would work well for you.

I have about 600 rounds through my rifle now and I haven't had to re-adjust the "0" at all since I got it about 20 rounds into shooting the rifle from new to get the scope zeroed in.

I think Barska is a good brand, but not American made.....too bad.

The Pine Ridge seems to be accurate enough, with a focus for anywhere between 75-300 yards, which is kind of nice, but not needed. Seems to hold a zero just fine as far as I can tell.
