| Researching models Looking for some input. I have decided I want a heavy barreled Savage in .308 for hunting and long range paper punchin' I am torn between two models and three different tubes. It will be going into a different stock. Model 12FV w/26" tube vs. Model 10FP in either 24" or 20" pipe. I have heard from a few competitive shooters that there is no accuracy difference between 20", 24" & 26". There is about a $50 difference between the two models. Is the 10FP worth the extra $ if I am going to put it into a different stock anyway? I have owned a 110FP in 300 win mag. Great accuracy (1/2" groups @ 200). Why do I no longer have it you ask. Needed $ and it did not fit my needs at the time. Let me know what you think, please. Thanks! ![]() |

| Said this in the other topic, but here it is again I have what is posted below in my Sig - Savage 10FP 24". The 12FV offers nothing but 2" more of barrel, and gloss blued. I personally like the matte finish better, but that's just me. If I were you, I'd get what I have right now, 'cept they don't make it anymore, they make it with the detachable magazine... which is even better. Get the 10FCP HSPrec, or McMillan - the stocks are better, and you'll save money in the long run if you plan on getting a new stock. You can't go wrong with it. I've been getting sub MOA with Hornandy Match Grade 168gr BTHP. Here's a tip - Spend as much, if not more, on the scope as you did on the rifle. Buy Leupold, Burris, or, if you have money up to your ears... Swarovski. |
