what a deal

I was talking with a older native guy at work who said he had an old 22 highpower or a 5.6 52r so i asked what he wanted for it.Long story short 40 of crown royal and i had me a new gun with 3 boxes of shells i almost feel bad this gun is worth well over a thousand dollars. The shells are very exspensive also can anyone tell me what it might actually be worth it needs some repair and cleaning till then all i can say is that its a lever action with a shell counter on it. Anybody know the real Value.?!

Canadian gun, not anywhere near $1,000 unless it is absolutely mint. Condition is key for price and being original. Original sights, not drilled and tapped and no sling stud or holes. I have bought and sold around 4 or 5 in the last year. Low of $175 and a high of $475. The $475 gun was really nice, but it had a chip out of the butt stock behind the tang. Is it a take down? Straight lever or pistol grip? Post a serial number with the last 2 digits xx out and I can tell you the date of manufacture.

I'm guessing a 1899H, take down, 20" barrel, serial number in the high 100,000 to low 200,000.

The shells are worth $35 - $40 per box so you got more than your money's worth there!

North of the 49th, same place bullhunk is. We just don't have the same demand or prices for our rifles up here.

Could have bought a 99 in 22 H.P. off Trix last week for $200, he ain't kidding when he says theres a big difference in U.S. and Canadian prices on the 99's.

Bullhulk says his gun needs some repair so it ain't a mint 1899H, I'm guessing around $250-$300 gun, or if he wants he can take it across the border and sell it for $1000.

I know of alot of 22H.P.'s that some Savage collectors down under have. I'm thinking Savage must have sent a large order of the guns to someone in Australia back in the day because about 75% of the 99's that show up in Australia are all 22H.P.'s. Didn't you guys have a real varmint problem back in the early 1900's? That could explain the great amount of the small fast moving cartridge being so popular there back then.

Sure sounds like yours is an 1899H. At least the serial range hits the right area, I'm guessing yours is a T/D model as well?

thanks mate it is a similar gun to the one described above. i am about to fit a scope and intend to use the gun for fox shooting.(im sick of using my 30 06) i have about 250 rounds and heaps more brass, so that should keep me going for a trip or two.
