Savage .308 Model 99E

New to this site.... Just inherited some guns. A friend wants to buy the Savage .308 (Serial # 105XXX) for $250. After reading on this site...I have a feeling that I am about to get the shaft. I wouldn't sell it at all if it weren't for the burial expenses.
Anyone know how to find out reliable prices for rifles, shotguns, and a couple of pistols? Kinda lost...don't know much about guns.

how old is the .308 and is it in good condition because that is a very cheap price in my opinion.. a new savage .308 runs about $600-$1000 depending on the model and where u buy it. but if hes a good friend and you just dont want it id sell it to him for $250 or maybe $300 depending on the condition of the gun.

It was made in 1962 but it's a post mil model E. Even if it's in great shape it's only a $400 rifle. The model E stands for "Economy". Savage made them with cheaper wood (birch usually) and they have no counter or tang safety. It was one of the cheapest models Savage put out so if your looking around at auction sights and stuff don't get to pumped by the prices, alot of the guns with high bids aren't model E's.
