I've had three 99's Two 300's which I sold and wish hadn't. about 10 years ago I picked a 99 in 308 it was made in 1949. I've killed more pigs then I can count with both hands. It is a great rifle. My son has alway's loved this rifle. So two years ago I gave it to him. But before I did I had a wood burning friend burn my name and the date I got it on the stock, under that is my son's name and the date I gave it to him and under that is my grandsons name (he's three) There is no date after his name. I told my son that when my granson is old enough to put the date that he gave to him. This gun will never leave the family. I have more guns then I'll ever need but this the most SPECIAL.

Mel | Well Mel, the 308 didn't show up until modifications were made to the 99 action in the mid 50's, so I doubt that yours is 1949. Post a partial serial number and there are a few of us on this site that can tell you when it was made.

99trix,
I stand corrected. I bought it from a man who was about 70 years old. He told me he bought new in 1949 I had no reason not to believe him. But seeing as I'm in my 40's and the things I can't remember I guess I should have checked. I just did a search and I think it was made in 1951 or later? Please tell if I'm wrong. I think it's a T model serial # 9208XX The only wear is where your hand would hold it while walking. If you would, let me know when you think it was made and I'm curius about the value. The stock is original with no cracks.
Thanks, Mel

Mel,
It is either late 56 or early 57, my numbers are thin in that area. It won't be a 99T, it will either be a 99R (heavy stock round forestock) 99F (light stock round forestock) 99EG schnoble forestock.

You sure thats not the pic I posted back a page?
If it is then that is a T but the T never came in 308 which means your gun has been rebarreled. You sure the caliber is 308 and not 300? The 308 won't even work in a T action.

Mel, send them here: joe_mad_dog @ msn .com
I think what might have happened is that the factory found an old set of T wood somewhere and threw it on your rifle.
Take the buttplate off and see if the numbers match.

Mel, you have a model 99F, it's not in the pic I have posted. It's about the most common of the pre-mil 308's. It's a legit gun. I've had the featherweight models in 308 and 300, got rid of both of them and went with the R's, to much recoil to enjoy them at the range.
If you look by the front scope mount on your barrel you'll see where it says "99F" right on the barrel.

Can anyone out there give me some ideas about what my .300 Savage Model 99F might be worth?
Wondering about approximate value? Serial Number on the bottom of magazine, in front of gold trigger is 1135115. Checkered stock, steel corrugated butt plate. Barell appears to be 22". Hairline crack in stock above the lever action. Weaver rings, cheap 4X scope. Any help would be appreciated! Just registered on this site, so not sure how to upload a digi pic. Thanks.

I have a chance to buy a 99 F 22 savage High power take down. I haven't seen it yet but I'm told it's in decent origenal condition. This is a pretty rare caliber, But when I was a kid my dad used to talk about the one he owned so I want to ad it to my collection. Any idea what would be a fare price to offer.

I have a chance to get a model 99 in .303 Savage, octogon barrel, serial number is 39571. The serial number website says it's 1903 or 1904, not in the best of shape but not junk either. Bore looks OK, some light pitting ojn the exterior and the stocks have a few nicks....ballpark value?
The lever is broken and has a pretty good silver solder repair but I'd like to replace it, I've looked in vain for savparts on ebay that's mentioned here often, can somebody supply a direct link?
Also, what is the common consensus on partial restoring versus leaving as is...how does it effect the value?

Restoring a rifle is a personal choice. The biggest downfall is the fact that collectors do not want restored rifles, so if you restore a rifle it will never increase the value anywhere near the cost to restore the rifle. Buying an 1899B 303 sav shooter it has to be cheap, really cheap. I wouldn't pay any more than about $200 for one. Problem is the cost of ammo. It is no longer factory available, so you need to reload or find old ammo and that can get expensive. Wait for a nicer one and pay a more. If you want to shoot it try to find a 30-30. Be patient, they are out there just waiting to be found!
