Take the butt off and very lightly spread the crack open and put some epoxy inside the crack, then clamp it together overnight. Should be good to go again by morning.

Thanks Mad Dog, Seems to be a pretty tight crack. Could not spread it with moderate amount of pressure. Did not want to crack it further so put it back together. Think I will just shoot it and if it starts opening up more will pull it apart and do the epoxy thing. Thanks for your help! Tex | |

| hola fellow 99ers
weve had 99's in our family for over 70 years. I have my Grandpas 300 in a picture with a sweet buck. I've had them in 243, 30-30, 300. Best open sight brush gun I ever had. I asked Savage if they would ever bring back the 99 in a 300WSM! would that be awsome or what! they never replied Shane- I wouild still be shooting my 243, but my son decided he wanted his inheritance early and took it with him ot Med School. He got a real nice buck with it this fall. just use a good bullet like the 90 grain partition and you will be happy. drop down to the 55 grain varmint bullet and its a screamer of a yote killer! | my new 1899
i'm all excited.... i've always thought the 99 was a real pretty rifle.... a while ago, i came into a pile of 25 cal bullets and started looking for a rifle in 250 savage to use them up.... well today i went into the gun store and there was a nice 1899.... made in 1915 or 1916.... takedown..... real pretty stock..... nice.... i tried to resist...... i left for a few hours to think about it and do some research..... im in california and have a 10 day waiting period, which will give me time to get dies and casings...... i never thought id actually own one...... i cant wait to shoot it.....

Haha, your kinda like me. I've bought tang sights first and then gotta find a gun to put it on. A 1915/1916 250-3000 will get better groups with 87 gr pills rather than the 100 grs cause they all had 1-14" twist barrels up until 1960 when they went to a 1-10" twist. The post 60's 250's stabilise the 100's alot better. If you find your not getting good groups try taking the forearm off, T/D 250's sometimes bind at the forearm/receiver and can throw off your shots. |

| i figured as much....
ive never shot or loaded .25's before..... i dont think i have any 87 grain bullets.... only 100's and 117's...... the twist looked real tight and i wondered if the heavier bullets would stabilize...... it was just too pretty to resist buying it..... now i'll probably have to buy 87 grain bullets and a tang sight too..... just cant wait to shoot it though...... i dont have dies or casings yet, and if im not mistaken the only factory rounds available are 100 grain rounds..... im going to a gun show at the cow palace in oakland this weekend and will try to pick up some of the stuff i need...... it will be nice to know, as i wander through the rows of rifles that i have a real nice savage 1899 waiting for me to pick it up in a few days..... if the heavier rounds dont work too well ill still have to get another rifle to use them up....... there are aout 1600 of them.... makes a good excuse to buy a rifle.... am i right? no, not watsonville.... newcastle..... up toward auburn on 80 newcastle..... near auburn on 80.... the road over the sierras to reno Last edited by pajaro; 01-08-2008 at 11:39 PM. Are you sure on that date? The EG's weren't catalogued until 1935. What models are the three safe queens? |

| HELP!!
I recently bought a 99E in 308 win. and would like to know when it was made. The serial #'s 10496xx are on the bottom of the receiver and the LBC looks like 12D to me as best as I can tell. This gun never had a scope on it or sling swivels when I got it so it was in really nice shape.Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The date code is wrong, the 99 was made in 1962. Should have an N not a D.

| Thanks a bunch!
Thanks! After looking at it again it could be a "N".Where they stamped it its in a bad spot-sorta on the curve of the lever boss.I picked this gun up for $300 bucks and it seemed like a great deal for me.Always wanted one of these-love lever guns.I've had it out on the range and it groups great so I wasn't disappointed!

If you are interested in learning more about the wonderful 99 I would recommend The History of the Model 99 by Murray. Great reference. The prices have sure risen of late. I love the 99 and wish I had more than just one. Most of what I find locally are over priced and in bad shape. Found a 99F last week. I may be wrong on the model. The stock was really lightweight. Someone had put a slip on butt pad on it and left it. Really screwed up the finish on the stock. I found it interesting because it had a tang safety but not a detachable magazine. It was a 308. Over one million serial number. Wanted 900 for it which I thought was way high for what it was. I could be wrong though. I think I will research it a little more to be sure of the model.

| 99'ers,savage Shane, I don't own or shoot a 99. A customer of mine wrote me a letter that I think you ought to read. He also sent a copy of his target. Go to Accuvel.com /testimonials. 243 is great for whitetails, hogs, and varmits. Good hunting |
