I can't even find the model number on mine. I am new to this site and will try to post a picture. Is this a 1899? from the ss number I know it is 1904.

I have 3 99's, a 250, a 300 & a 303. The 300 & the 303 are take downs & the 250 is a non takedown but dad got it at a fire sale back in the early 70's with the stock burned off it. All 3 shoot great. Here are a couple pics of my boys shooting them. The one that is scoped is the 250, scope is a Lyman All American 4 power. The other is the 303 with a Marble Tangsight on it. The pic of the 250 was taken 2 years ago, Jonathon was 11. The 303 pic with Jason was about 2 months ago, he's 10.

I'm more of a Winchester 88 guy, But I do appreciate a good 99 once in a while.

I own the entire line of Winchester 88's and 100's(including carbines) except for a .358. When I've got that, I guess I'll start buying 99's.

Seeking knowledge...

Seems this forum has some Savage experts. I am helping my mother-in-law clean-up her late husband's gun collection, and hope you can educate me. One piece is a Savage 99M in .308 Winchester, 22 inch barrel. Engraved receiver--elk and cougar Manufactured before 1980 in Westfield. How do I find out more about the gun, value for insurance, etc? Thanks for any help!

Sounds like a 99PE. The M is for monte carlo stock. Manufacture between 1965 - 1970
