How about a Savage for deer (.308)

I hunt with my slug gun (870 Express Mag), but I want to get a rifle and put a scope on it to hunt deer with. I was thinking of a Savage Model 11FL Left handed chambered Win .308. I have heard good about the gun and it isn't rediculously priced. I will be using it to hunt both thick and thin woods. Sometimes on the edges of large fields. What kind of range would I have properly sighted in with a decent scope.

Thanks for any input you have,
Matt

Can't go wrong with a Savage, they may not be works of art, but they are very accurate, and will put meat in the freezer without much fuss.

great choice really. If you sight it in correctly and practice you should soon be confident in the 150-200 yard ranges.

The 308 is about the ideal deer round. Its good for 300 meters with the right ammo.

Using 150/165gr bullets and sighted in 2" high at 100yds you have a pbr of 250yds with a .308win.In other words,if you aim at center mass, you will almost definitly make a 1 shot kill on a deer out to 250yds. sam.
