ok so i have been looking for a mount for my savage 3b for a long time and went to a gun shop the other day to by shells and just happen to ask if they had anything that would work for it and the guy gave me this mount with a scope that he took off some gun to replace with better mounts or something so i took it home and the holes do line up and i looks like it would work but the bolt would hit it if i mount it as is so i was thinking of using shims under the mount to pull the scope to the left since it does hang over to the right as it is and i was wondering if that would work

By "mount" do you mean bases or rings?At any rate you need higher rings.Go to Midwayusa or some other on line dealer and look and look in bases and rings,or just go to your gunshop or gunsmith and they can fix you up. ,,,sam.

Can't find much except midwayusa lists a sidemount for $13.49,#119028.Don't know if it is the right one.You could call them at their # 1-800-243-3220.I'm sure they can help. I doubt that any shim would work on a sidemount. ,,,sam.

i think i might have an idea i found a piece of steel that has the same hole line up so i might us it as a shim but idk if it would work because its flat so if it doesnt work out i might just cut up some cans since they would be easy to make the shape i need, like my idea is to add the material under where the mount attaches to the rifle so it will lift the scope up and to the left putting it right ontop of the barrel and away from the bolt handle and i think if i do it right it should'nt move do you think it will work

At the cost of tin cans I would give it a try.However you might find the screws too short after adding shims.You need about 4 full turns.I wouldn't use loktite until you try it but then it would be appropriate.Hope it works for you.Hope I conversed properly with you so someone won't have to go to all the bother to correct me and straighten me out. ,,,sam.

i got it to work but it took some rigging i had to take the scope out of the mount and put it in the other was so the mound has the curve to the outside then i have these 2 pieces of stainless steel that i found around the house that have the right spread then i got 2 screws that are the perfect length so it might sound quite ghetto but it does not look that bad and it also is high enough that i can still use iron sights if i want it is still just a little off to the right but i went and sighted it in it only took two changes in scope clicks to get it dead on and even after a bunch of shots its still on. i will post up some pics so you can take alook

Looks like some serious riggin there. the scope is set too far back and looks a bit out of place. The height may also present a problem, having to raise your cheek almost off the stock to get your eye properly lined up with the scope.
I think the gun was drilled and tapped for a weaver side mount and no.1 or 2 base not the one you have on there now. maybe use the open sights until you get the correct mounts for it.

from the pics it does look really high but it is pretty much perfect and it is set back that far because of the eye relief on the scope but other than that it shoots like a champ
