Savage 99 in 303 Sav

I see a Savage 99 in 303 for sale for $150.00, the guy has lots of ammo to go with it. Should I even be considering a .303 Savage as a shooter?

Jimbo (tried to post my opinion once and it never showed up...hope you don't end up with the same answer twice)

Anyway. If it's a shooter buy it. The ammo alone could sell for $25-40 per box. It's kinda hard to find. I got a nice 8 point with my 1911 .303 and an arrogant coyote...it's fun to shoot and accurate (I'm shootin all hand loads..the original cartridges were about 50 years old and weren't real consistent)
Regards,
Robert

Jimbo, about a month and a half ago while on a business trip I saw a Savage 99 in .303 with an octagon barrel etc. Beautiful rifle, but not in mint condition. the shop was asking $895 for it and that was without ammo. The previous owner bought it because he thought it was .303 british and couldn't get ammo for it. My guess is he wasn't very resourceful.

alas I was too late and the rifle was already being loved up by a new owner.
I will keep looking.

I know someone with a Savage 99 in .303 that might consider selling it. It is a shooter condition piece. It is NOT mine, email me and I'll give you info.

I have an uncle that continued to use his dad's mdl 99 .303 sav up untill a few years ago. He lives in upstate NY where it is mostly short range brush hunting. The .303sav is fine for woods hunting.

my owns a savage .303 its is a beautiful gun but the ammo is realy hard to find we have one org.box of ammo and the others are all reloads if people have the ammo they hold on to it. $895 is a good price i've seen the gun go for $1900

It is easy to fireform .220 Swift or put a sleeve of .40 S&W case on a .30-30 family case and fireform.
I load a 200gr 1RGC to 2000fps in my 1920 carbine, about 100fps faster than the 190gr factory load and have no problems.
It will do anything a .30-30 will do and can use pointed bullets safely.
