Problem with my 887 Remington Tactical Mag

Good Evening. I have a problem with my new 887 Remington Tactical Mag that I just got and hope it's just me and my never owning one of these. I'm not able to load any shells (it takes 2 3/4, 3 and 3 1/2) into the magazine tube, the plunger won't budge at all, I can load one into the tube with no problem, but the red plunger will not budge to let me load them into the magazine tube. Is there something I have to align first, all my other ones are just lock and load, I've never owned a Remington so I just don't know. Please help!

Check for one heck of a long plug? UNLOAD/SAFE Take the barrel off from the end cap. There may be a retainer on the end of the tube. If so, remove it being carefull of the spring. Check for a rod type device. Mabe give it a look with a flash light down the tube. The follower may be stuck as well, giving it a sharp rap may free it.

Edit: looking at the TAC Mag, you may have to unscrew the magazine extension somehow. Sorry, never had my hands on one (870 Guy)

Thanks Jerry, I did and the spring gave me quite a quick grab LOL. No rod, no retaining pins or ring, it's just the plug down there, afraid to give a poke with much force. Going to call Remington in the morning as my dealer is closed tomorrow and see what they say, thinking I should have gone with a Mossberg afterall . Thanks again for the advice.

Thanks for getting back. Should be nothing too stressfull. Sounds like the follower is hung up somehow, or the mag tube has a taper where it should not.

Well, yes but

Red plunger you say? That's a plastic plunger, and should probably be replaced with a metal one BECAUSE they have a tendency to swell and get stuck under certain conditions as it sounds like yours has.

Is this the pump or the auto? I think the autos have a button to depress for loading/unloading. . . I may be thinking of another brand.

Thanks BarryHalls, yes I think it's plastic, I called Remington today and they say they've had a couple of complaints like this and they are sending me a replacement. He said one guy accused them of super gluing it in there LOL. He told me to go ahead with a blunt object and hammer and pop it out of there and if I destroy it don't worry, one is being shipped out.

Thanks folks. I'll replace it as soon as possible with a metal one. I did manage finally to get it loose without breaking it, so I'll have a spare for the time being. Still going for that metal though. I now have a tactical shotgun and not a one shooter.

Hey thanks for this thread!!! I just got my 887 and had the same problem. **** plunger just wouldn't budge. I got some wood and hammer and tapped the plunger which freed it. I was losing my mind trying to load this gun. Works great now. Thanks for your posts!! - Bradley
