Do you assume everyone that has joined G&G since 2003 has read every thread in archives?
How many times a week do we get a "Which gun should I buy?" from a new member?
How is this trolling?

I'd reather not mess somebody up with birdshot, birdshot might possible handy cap someone if they broke in on you and you had to shoot them with birdshot.
I'd reather shoot them with 00 buckshot and kill them as humanely as I try to kill deer.
If you was a criminal would'nt you hate to go through life with half a head, miss'in an arm or shoulder, crotch, both legs ???
Shoot them a couple of times with Buck shot they'll come more near appreciateing it...A.H

No. Slugs are for like, dinosaurs an stuff.

For defense I always liked #1 Buck in 2 3/4 Mag load myself.

| Well,
I have a shorter barreled Remington 870 I keep loaded with alternating slug and double ought buckshot.
I feel a home invader may well be wearing some type body armor plus might be under the influence of some mind altering chemical whether it be alcohol/illegal drugs/legal medications.

This is one of the reason's I miss my Lil buddy Herbert the Ginny Pig. If somebody broke in our front door and rushed in he would run out from under the couch and nibble on them giveing me time to react.
I shor miss that Lil feller LOL...A.H

well, i guess i'll put in my .02. i don't have a repeating shotgun here, just my H&R 88.
it's my turkey gun so i keep it loaded with #4 shot turkey loads.
one in the pipe, and 5 more in the bandoleer on the buttstock.
reloads are done faster than you would think with this setup.
i've been thinking of getting a coach gun to keep around the house,
or maybe i'll go all out and get one of stoeger's tacticool side by sides

I Like birdshot for the close in (under 10ft)..I see a few hundred pellets all massed togher as pretty much ending any conversation.
Buckshoot (O or OO) is next in line....and best for beyond say 10ft...9-12 30cal round balls goes a long way in convinceing a crackhead to stop trying to harm your family.
Slugs...I think slugs hit hard (course they weight 1oz or 435 grains)...but you lose the advantage of a spreed..how ever slight that spread is...at even 10 ft...a 3-4 inch spread can make up for the adrinilin rush jitters...so aside from maybe hunting...I think slugs are basicly worthless.
Ok I got the flame proof suit on...as GW says "lets get it on". | if u go with buckshot i think a lot of it has to do with which ammo you use and pellet count and size. U want to find a happy medium. I recently went out and purchased numerous different types of buck shot ranging from 9 pellet 000 all the way to 41 pellet num4. Took them to the range and at about 15 ft and 25 feet i checked to see what had the biggest pattern so hopefully theres no missing. Believe it or not just because one brand says 9 pellet buck and the other brand says the same thing, they'll spread quite a bit different. Some brands stay very packed packed while others will spread alot more. Some stay real close and some spread quite well. I happen to love the 41 pellet num 4 buck and winchester X 24 pellet #1. They both had excellent spread. Just depends if you want lightly smaller pellets at a 41 count or slightly larger at 24. This is very important to see what works best for your shotgun, if you decide you dont have the time nor funds to go out and test a bunch of different rounds, if you have a rifle like mine "mossberg 500 18" barrel pursuader, i'd go with the 1st 2 as the federal 41 num 4's and if that for some odd reason doesnt do the trick switch up to the larger #1 winchester X with the next 2. Then I have the hybrid slug with 3, 00bucks to finish the job. Now I have a child half the time and i recommend those home defense rounds 2x4 size all the way thru the gun. They are bird shot num 2 and num 4 with sum plastic little frisbee things in it to help the bbs spread further and im sure they sting like hell. This should stop the purp and hopefully not break thru the walls or if they do it'd be minimal destruction and not hurt my son do to loss of momentum... Hows that??

If you don't have a gun and you have to throw the shells,as long as they weigh the same,it makes no difference.

I would use OO Buck- Frangible!! No over penetration to worry about and at close range, frangible is quite lethal. I need to stop the threat as quickly as possible AND be concerned where the shot goes if I miss. I am responsible for the shot no matter the outcome.

I personally use a 20 ga loaded with bird shot. My reasons being that if someone broke in, with the way my house is laid out, if I were to take a shot there would be 10 feet or less between me and them. And I want to cause as little to no damage as possible to any other living things in my house (read parents and dog, since my dad would be out there throwing chairs as he usually does and mom would be busy trying to keep me from shooting) or risk anything going out a window and into someone else's window and killing one of the zillion kids in the neighborhood who live really close to the house. I don't keep anything but that 20 ga loaded in the house because of the closeness of the other homes in the neighborhood and me not wanting to take a chance of something going stray and hitting someone's kid.

My 12 guage with a 20 inch barrel sits on my dresser just feet from where I sleep loaded with 3 inch 15 pellet 00 buck shot. From my room if there is a hall way and to get to where I am they are going to be funneled into that hall way with nothing behind to worry about except maby hitting my fridge thorugh the wall wich at that point that ould be the last of my worries.

00 buck only, use magnum loads, they have 15 pellets and move a bit slower than the standard loads less chance of collateral damage and more energy into the target. Win-Win. Slugs easily overpen and kick harder than the buck. The buck is like shooting them with 15 32 call bullets. A slug is a single 50 cal. I prefer more holes

I am just curious (and, in being so, will undoubtedly show my ignorance): for those of you that alternate shot/slug (or, end-up with slug), are you using a smooth, or rifled barrel?
