Hi, I have a Winchester and prefer it over the 870. In fact I sold my 870 over 22 years ago to buy the Winnie. They are very dependable and I can not say enough about it. I also have the 22 inch slug barrel with the Winchoke system which works great for Bucks and Toms as well as a 28 inch vent ribbed barrel I use for Ducks, Geese, Phesants and Squirrels. The two barrels and the use of the Winchokes make it an all purpose gun. Most years I don't even break out one of my rifles. I just grab the Winchester and go on my way. My experience with Mossburgs left a bad taste in my mouth. I feel only two kind of people own them. The ones that were cheap, and just bought it due to price. And those that are trying to find a buyer so they can sell one. They rattle more than most sets of fake deer rattlers due in the field. don't beleive me go to the store and pick up different shotguns and shake them. If it is all you can buy do to money, do yourself a favor and wait till you can save a little more cash. My reasons for the Winchester over a Remington is they are lighter in weight and just as many law enforcement groups and military groups use them as Remingtons. I feel the Remingtons are an excellent shotgun I just happen to have gotten one that would not always eject shells and after sending it back twice I decided to buy a different kind. I also like the Benelli's but they are like the Brownings there foreign made and to high in price. The only draw back to a Winchester is there are a lot more aftermarket companies who build parts for Remingtons and Mosseburgs. Well I hope I have not made anyone mad and that you read this with an open mind and it is helpful to someone. I end in saying that this gun serves me in home defense and in the field well. And I have filled my freezer every year since I bought it. Although I will admit that I don't have to work anymore and all I do with my time is hunt and fish. Pete |

I use a Winchester model 12 16 Ga. with a 4 digit serial #. It's not the prettiest gun in the world but it is very dependable. The gun is solid, it doesnt rattle and has been in use for almost 95 years. I did have to have it re chambered for 2 1/2 shells. I do like the 870's for a slug gun. I have never owned a 1300.

To the people wondering about using foster type slugs in rifled barrels. Our findings were they work great but not for long. You must clean the lead out of the barrel after as little as 5 shots,BUT you usually have to clean the plastic out after using sabots. sam.

I have an 870 tac 3 but ive also shot the 1300 defender alot. I never had any problems with either of them well actually once with e 1300 but that was an ammo issue not the gun so it dont count.

Win 39 -my first shotgun is a winchester mod 1912 16 ga. made in 1913. paid $20. for it used in 1964. had it re- chambered for 2 3/4" shells too. still have it. bought some Ely 2 1/2" shells and killed a few grouse with it a couple of years ago. I also have a Rem. 870 wingmaster w/ full 28" bbl thats my turkey gun and a Win 1300 defender w/ 20" smooth bore slug bbl that I use for defense and deer hunting.

I have three Winchester 1200's !2ga 16ga and 20ga. I put a 1300 slug barrel on my 12 ga. and have taken several deer with it. I like the Winchester over the mossberg for smooth pump action, however I use to use my dad's 870 and I liked it even more.

I like the Winchester pumps. The only thing I have against the Remington 870's is the comb is just too high to fit me, I can't shoot one comfortably. I had a 500 Mossberg, it was a little short for my liking and it would often drop shells out of the magazine on to ground when I worked the action.
