big and rich, if you can READ- its a TRAP gun. a competition shotgun! some people actually do more with a gun than just fling bullets into herds of elk.

Lefty, I know. Lot's of people hunt with trap guns, including myself. I use a Huglu O/U with 28 inch tubes, IMP/MOD cylinders, 12 guage. As said before, I would never take a shotgun that cost over $2500 off the rack or out of the safe.

SPAS-12, full stock with pistol grip (not the metal folder).
Benelli M3 Super 90 in 12ga, full stock with pistol grip.
All of the above with the mag-tube extension that puts it at the end of the barrel, whatever that length may be for that particular firearm.
School and other toys are preventing me from buying these for at least a couple years.
You know a shotgun barrel has to be 18" to be legal, right, without NFA paperwork? 16" is the number for rifles, 18" for shotguns.

I had the same plan as you with an 870, but eventually switched back to having multiple Mossbergs. If you need a tube for a 20" barrel, give me a holler. My original goal was to set up an 870 like a Mossberg 590, with mag tube and bayonet lug, but I ultimately decided to go back to Mossbergs. The mag tube is turned down at the front at the same diameter as the loop of an M16 bayonet.

A lightweight O/U in 28ga, maybe another CZ Woodcock Deluxe in 28.
Heck of a nice field/bird gun.

I'd like a Beretta 627 28 ga. SXS 28" bbls & English style stock.

But! If I won the megabucks! That 28 ga. SXS would be a David McKay Brown custom round body with an engraved case hardened frame with a drop dead gorgeous piece of English walnut. I'd have to carry a rag to wipe off the drool marks.

Yeah, I totally mixed up the two numbers for rifles and shotty's. Sorry about that.

If I ever do get a shotgun, it will likely be one of the semi/pump ones I mentioned, as I only really want that, since you're really going for versatility when you pick up a 12ga. ;-)

Haven't heard anything about Purdey. I would own one of those, just to say I have one. Then keep it in a safe all by itself, and maybe shoot trap with it once a decade.

With 7 shotguns in my cabinet, I don't really "need" any more... but I would really like to have a Benelli M4.

Benelli - Firearms - M4

It would be my SHTF gun, loaded with 3" 000 Buck.

I have 8, and while I'm probably slowing down with them, I certainly want a few more.

Nice SxS 12ga and a Saiga 12 would likely do me. I have several good tactical and hunting shotguns. I am looking for unique and different now.

I'd like an O/U more or less for the sake of completeness. I don't have any desire for a high grade one though. It's interesting to me that most people have a goal of a SxS or O/U of some high grade. All my interests are for basic grade repeaters with technology being what distinguishes them.

If you're interested in a low cost but very well built O/U, I'd recommend a Remington Spartan 310.

Remington SPR310™ Over & Under Specifications

They can be easily found new for about $325-$350. I just purchased one and couldn't be happier. While they don't have the eye candy engravings that some more expensive O/U do, they are built like tanks and will take quite a beating.

They are manufactured by the Russian Firearms company Baikal, but are sold by Remington with the Remington name on it.

I was considering one back when they were Baikals, and am glad that they didn't go up all that much in price.

I have to wonder why there are cheap SXS options under $200 but O/Us always go much higher.

Come to think of it, I never did ask... I listed SPAS-12 and Benelli M3 Super 90, but I'm not aware of any other semi-auto/pump 12ga shotguns. I know the USAS-12 is full/semi-auto/pump, but it's also a Class III weapon, not easy to get, and very expensive. Anyone able to enlighten me on any other quality, cheap'ish shotguns?

I purchased a Traditions O/E 20g made for them by the Fausti company. Since I could never afford a Purdey or the like, this is an elegant bird gun with nicely engraved walnut stock and fine-tuned ejectors. New, I got if for about $600. The Fausti gals that own the company were the nicest people I met at the ShotShow this year. Great item, great
