Remington 870 Problems

Hey guys,

I have a Remington Express Mag. that has been having some issues lately when it comes to ejecting the shell. 75% of the time, it works fine, but sometimes the slide is "stuck", and I am not able to pull it back to eject the shell. The way to get it to eject is to slam the pump forward (about 1/8th of an inch), and then pull back.

Has anyone else experienced this? It might be due to pulling the pump towards me slightly when I shoot. It's not a big deal, since I can still operate the gun, but it's kind of a hassle when I need to shoot quickly (Like doubles in trap shooting or when bird hunting).

I think I've had the same problem. My solution was to buy two Mossbergs.

The problem I had was the cartridge was only coming part way out of the magazine or tube.I polished the clips that hold the shell in and cleaned under them and it worked.Mine did the same as you say yours is doing. When I pushed the slide ahead and pulled back again the shell would go all the way into the elevator and work. samuel.

BRG3, I have one Mossberg (and will probably buy more in the future), but I can't afford to get rid of this 870 right now...

I haven't taken it to a gun smith yet. That will be the next step.

I like both. My new 835 in camo has a smooth action and will be very nice for my hunting activities.

HOWEVER, in a tactical situation, there is a reason why the 870 reigns supreme. The Remington Marine P 870 is the ONLY shotgun I would ever use in a duty situation. That includes the Benelli M4 (SUPREMELY OVERPRICED and not as reliable).

I suppose loyalties run deep on any side of this issue, though!

Thanks! I hope someone replies. I think I'm going to take it to a gun smith pretty soon anyway, but maybe there is a solution that can be performed by myself.

That's what I thought until I bought an 870. Reliability is what brought me back to Mossberg, that and specific models that I really liked.

I think it comes down to what gun has served you the best. Both companies make good, solid guns. And like I said...the action on this new Mossberg is VERY nice, plus, I just seem to prefer the way it feels when I'm hunting out in the field.

AND, can I just put my two cents in about the Traditions by Fausti OE 20 gauge that I got for dove season last year? 600 bucks for a REALLY nice bird gun. Check 'em out!!
