| New England Firearms & Braztech... are they good brands?
I was looking for some shotguns for the grand kids, and I found the brands New England Firearms, and Braztech on walmart.com. I've never really heard of either of them before, and the guns are pretty cheap ($90 single shot 20 gauge (braztech), and $190 pump action 20 gauge (New England Firearms.)) Walmart is a cheap place, sometimes with even cheaper (in quality) products, so I need to know this... are these brands/guns any good as far as they won't break or misfire or jam etc. easily? Thanks.

New England Firearms, if I'm not mistaken, is a branch of Marlin. I have a Single Shot .410 Shotgun that is of the New England Firearm brand, and the gun shoots great. The finish is pretty, and the barrel is so thick, I'm not sure if it could ever break (it's nearly twice as thick as my Remington 12ga barrel.) That being said, I've never shot one of their pump action. I can't imagine that they're anything less then awesome shotguns though. You really can't go wrong with a American made gun (I guess you can, but there's a warranty to back it up). EDIT: Oh yeah, Welcome to the boards |

| Wow! You're right...I just looked it up, and I guess the NEF Pump-Action Shotguns are made in China. I never would have thought. I wouldn't consider it a bad gun because of it though. If their still putting the NEF name on it, then I'd say it's definitely worth a shot, especially for the price that they sell them for.

Thanks for the advice! After hearing what you had to say, I'm most definitely going to give them a try!

Yes, they are good guns, I have owned several, and they have held up pretty good over the years. BTW, Wal Mart doesn't sell cheapened firearms.

The Chinese build good serviceable guns. I have two Norinco .22 rifles that are basically Chinese-copies of the CZ rifles - excellent shooters for far lower price than a CZ! Historically, the Chinese had less than stellar finish, but that is just an appearance issue. Lately, they have improved, knowing Americans will pay more for better finished guns. Braztech is a different issue - Brazilian made el cheapos. Serviceable, but many owners report problems. I'd stay with the NEF!
