Unhappy Rusted Receiver Needs Help

Over the weekend I bought a H&R 12 ga Topper from a friend that needed money (didn't want the gun but gotta "help a brother out") for $60. The receiver is rusted so that you can barely see the rainbow color of the steel. Its not pitted but it doesn't come off with WD-40 or Rem-oil. Anyone know a good way to remedy this? Sand Paper? Steel Wool?

00 should be fine for that, follow with 000 if you have it.Take your time and let the steel wool do the work.

Sounds like you are on the right track, but be careful with the 00 steel wool. You may want to start with an out of the way spot to make sure you are not causing damage. I usually use 000.

If you can find it, try some RB-17 or Kroil with 0000 steel wool, it works great! ATF works well also.
