Cool Shell length?

Hey, I looked at the owners manuel of a shotgun I am looking to buy. It says it has a 3 inch chamber. But on the owners manual it says to use a shorter shell in the chamber than what is specified on the chamber? I thought that you could put a 3 inch shell in a 3 inch chamber?

I had that happen years ago with a 2 3/4" 12 guage. My new box of 2 3/4" shells wouldn't chamber because they were about an eighth inch too long. In a recently made weapon with recently made ammo it should be fine. Could you post a direct quote from the manual?

It says: Shotshells of the correct guage that are shorter than the stamped chamber length designation are safe to use. But as I read a little further it said:Never use shotshells that are longer than the designated on the barrel, as this would create a seiours safety hazard. So that made me think they ment it could use anything 3 inch and under. Thanks, appriciate feedback.

By the way this is a single shot H and R pardener 12 guage. And is it safe to shoot slugs out of it.

I haven't bought the thing yet but I went online and down loaded the owners manuel. Then I went to midway to look at ammuntion for it (i can't buy a gun before i have picked out an ammo to try) But I kinda got stumped after reading that. Would the modified choke or the full choke be better.

3 inch shells will work fine as long as it says it has a 3 inch chamber and it depends on what you want to do for the choke.

Yeah, you're ok with anything marked 3" or less. If you plan to shoot a lot of slugs or some of the premium slugs, less choke is better. If you stick to the old-style Forster slugs, they're just a soft lead hollow, cup-shaped projectile and they'll get through your choked barrel without any trouble.
