buckshot for 20g?

Do you need a special type of barrel to shoot buckshot out of a 20g shot gun?

No

Birdshot or buckshot will move easily through a
smoothbore 20 gauge barrel no matter what the choke.
A rifled barrel for slugs will send out birdshot or
buckshot in a doughnut shaped pattern with the
center hole expanding with distance.

Dear Meatloaf

NO, you will not harm your barrel. If you have a screw in
choke do always have a choke in the barrel so as not to
harm or ruin your threads. If you have screw in chokes
the information coming from the choke manufacturer should
also tell you if the choke is one that will work with steel shot
should you wish to fire this type shotgun shell.

All the lead birdshot and buckshot in the world will not harm
your barrel. I had a uncle (now deceased) who fired his
Ithaca shotgun so much the chamber expanded over the
decades to the point you could actually stand it on the muzzle,
shake it, and rattle a loaded shell. The bore was as good as
the day he bought the gun.

Good shooting, good hunting, and the best of luck.

Use the most open choke. Are you using the buck for home defence, if so try number 4 buck. If allowed for hunting something bigger (O,OO etc.)

With my 12ga, I use an Improved Modified choke, which produces amazing patterns at 50 yards with 00-Buck Shot. If you're using it in a home setting, then I could go for a Cylinder Choke, but if you're hunting, I'd consider an Improved Modified choke.

I just bought a H&R-NEF Pardner pump in 20ga. and it came with a modified choke but it looks like a full choke.
I need to do a range report on this sweet lil shooter and I'm going to shoot slugs, buckshot and #6's through it before I add anymore comment to the Thread I've aready started last week.

I've got a 20ga. single shot that I have shot some buck shot through and I personaly think it's a waste if your going to Deer hunt with a 20ga. shooting buck shot.

I've never shot any 3" magnums though because the single shot only shoots 2 3/4
This Pardner Pump will handle 3" magnums so thats what I'm going to test through it.

Whats your recomendations for a Deer load ?...A.H

Thanks Sam but I'll bet all I'm able to find is Remington old timey slugs around here.
LOL.
I hopeing this Lil shotgun will be kinder to my ears and it be a good squirrel gun too.
I'm also eager to see how 3'' magnums do...I've never shot a 20ga. with 3'' mags.
And thank goodness the barrel is not ported like it is on my Mossberg 930.

Those Remington "ole timeys" are one of the greatest deer getters on the market. That in a .20ga is what I got a little 6point with, except I think it was Winchester.Foster type slugs work just as good as you can hunt. sam.

I use #3buck in my 20 ga. for home defense. Real tight pattern at 7 to 10 yards.
