ive got a H&R 158 i think is what it is ,anyways its been in the family for probably 30 or 40 years, does any body know the history of it,also when ive shot and i break it open sometimes the shell does not eject and i have to get it out with my knife,is the spring getting weak or is that what happens when you use 10 year old shotgun shells.

Ive never heard of H&R being worth much, but i had a single shot with a bad ejector and had to have a new spring put in, well didn't have to i suppose btu got tired of popping the shells out with a knife lol

The spring is probably weak. You can order them from numrich or e gun parts. In the mean time find a bolt or bar of steel about 4" long that wont lodge in the barrel and when a shell sticks hold the barrel vertical and drop the bar in,it should be easier than using a knife. sam.

I'm sure the shells are fine. I'm shooting stuff 30 years old no problem. The oil probably is gummy too down there helping it stick. Hose it down with an electrical cleaner or gun cleaner that doesn't leave a residue streak. I tried a powder lube down there based on recommendations I'd read but switched back to a light oil down there with bi-annual degreasing. You still might have to pop a pin to look at that spring, but sounds like a typical old gummy oil gunk prob to me. That's usually what my old Winchester single shot used to do...ain't she ugly? Bought her in 1979 and me and my buddy chopped'em down for them darn fast flying partridge. ![]() Every man should have a sawed off shotgun...make sure she's legal per ATF though with a 18" barrel and 26" overall or you gonna be in trouble.
