| old .410 i have an old single shot stevens .410 that i got from my grandpa about 2 years ago( he had it years before i was born) and its starting to get rust on the barrel. its a great gun and i use it from time to time but i want to keep it for a long time, is there any way to remove the rust with out damageing the barrel? |

| As far as I know anything you do will remove the bluing as well. If the pitting isn't too bad I would kill it with a rust/blue remover and then blue the spot again. Different brands of "blue out of a bottle" seem to leave different shades of bluing as well, but all brands that I have tried are extremely easy to use. If the pitting is real bad, you can smooth it down with a file or steel wool and reblue...but thats going to remove metal, and removing too much metal can cause serious problem of course (disclaimer). remember that if you don't like how the blue turned out, you can always remove the blue and try again with a different brand until you find something that matches well after a few coats.

| 0000 steel wool and WD-40, rub lightly after spraying both, come off without a problem |

| If nothing else coat it with oil until you decide what to do. Because unlike what the song says it will put rust to sleep. Oil or grease will cause the oxidization to cease until the oil drys out anyway.
