Turned down for shotgun

I will be honest , I do have a domestic misdemenor assault, like 14 years ago. I was told by the local law enforcement, that if I went to anger control, that it would not go against me, anyways I have nothing against me now, not even a traffic ticket, own a house , two cars and ahve excellent credit. What are my options, all I want to do is go hunting on my own land in Kansas, live in Colorado Springs , co.

Get an attorney

See if a judge can reverse your conviction due to your improvement.

It really might be possible to have your record cleared.

^ +1 What nathangdad said. I'm afraid that your misdemeanor falls under the evil rider-passed Lautenberg Amendment, which deserves to be challenged before the Supreme Court. But a good attorney might be able to have your conviction vacated or expunged, which I presume would be enough to clear you for NICS purposes. Contact the NRA, find out who the good gun issue lawyers in your area are from them, and hire one to fight this for you. Good luck.

I agree with Cyrano. That domestic assault is enough to disqualify you under Federal law.

I was told Kansas only goes back for 5 years on the background checks. And all the paperwork I filled out for the sheriff to get my CCW the questions all had "In the last 5 years have you ever...."

Getting a lawyer is the way to go about it and try and get it expunged. but if you're like most, money for a lawyer is tough to come by. And for that, I truly feel for you. And FWIW, yea, 14yrs. seems an awful lot to go back. To me anyhow...

One thing I'll say, it's things like this that tend to keep gun owners honest and keep them from breaking laws.
