skeet and trap

what is the difference (if any) between skeet and trap shooting? Also what shot size of ammunition works best for this?

Trap shooting is more along the lines of how birds really act, usually with multiple clays going in more than one direction, as well as multiple stations to shot from, skeet shooting is just one person throwing or using a launcher and one person shooting.

Trap is a single clay at a time, which is why some trap guns are single shot.
Skeet has singles and doubles, requiring a double barrel or pump/SA.
Sporting Clays is a relatively newer game replicating hunting conditions...singles, doubles, and even "rabbit" targets rolling on the ground.

You don't need much power to break a clay, but it takes at least two-three pellets in it to break. I suggest a lite load with a lot of pellets...#7s #71/2s or #8s.

A gun with interchangable chokes helps, but a fixed choke gun will work if you know how to shoot it.

Google "skeet rules" "trap rules" and "sporting clays rules" I tried to link it but it didn't work...so you'll have to search it yourself.

I would say something but it wouldn't be nice.(like bull-crap) Trap is shot from five positions from 15yds+ and birds fly in five different angles across and away from you.Skeet has 8 positions and two traps one high that launches a bird at ten feet and one low that launches the bird at three feet. The traps are at oposing ends of a semi-circle with 8 shooting positions. The birds cross in front of you.You have a left and right shot.Mostly, doubles SXS or stacked are used.I have used auto,s and pumps but doubles are faster.PUT Skeetshooting on your search. Also put trapshooting on. ,,,sam.

Trap's fired from 5 stations, 5 shots from each station, and regulation is 16 to 27 yards from the front of the trap house.
The thrower is constantly cycling back and forth, so you don't know which direction the bird will be thrown..

Typically, shots from station 5 (all the way to the right) and getting a bird thrown to the right is called a "Hard Right" and is typically the most difficult of the shots.

In normal handicap league, the better your team shoots, the further back from the 16 yard positions you'll end up shooting.

Trap range layout.

Range in action.

Idiot in action. (I know.. It's photoshoped, but it's a photoshop of an idiot)

I shoot both games, but like skeet better, just due to the doubles. And remember, an expensive gun isn't what breaks clays. It's the guy pulling the trigger..

I actually shoot higher scores with my old High Standard 28 gauge IMP choked pump than I do with my SKB screw in choke 12 gauge over/under. The gun just fits me and I shoot it well. (and there's a little satisfaction of outshooting guys with 12 guages with my little 28 gauge)
