Bargain Shotguns

I have always wanted a side-by-side for home protection. I cannot afford a Fox or other high grade guns. So, I bought a Chinese made 12 ga., double barrel, 20 inch barrel. The gun is new (fired 4 times), in the box with papers, beautiful checkered wood, rabbit ear hammers. $200. Was it a bargain? Or should I have saved my money? Your thoughts on bargain shotguns. Thanks.

I got a Condor over and under from Stoeger made in Turkey and my son has a p350 pump Stoeger. paid under $300 for each of them and they both work great and are pretty reliable . Dont know which brand of Shotgun you have but I know Norinco makes some pretty fine guns.

Yes, a good price. I haven't been able to find one that inexpensively.

If you like it, and shoot it well, then whose to complain??? As long as it safe, and functions as intended, then use the bee-jeepers out of it.It's not the gun, it's the man...

I have found through reading and serfing the net that shotguns made in Turkey happen to be excellent shotguns.
Weatherbe has a semi-auto thats budget priced but thsts all the budjet to it. It's an excellent shotgun so I've read.

Marlin through H&R-NEF is Importing pumpaction and semi'-auto's with the semi-auto's being made in Turkey and the pumpaction in China.
The pumpaction's are outstanding but I've not searched for reports on the semi-auto.

CZ Imports some of there outstanding over and unders from Turkey and the list goes on for affordable shotguns from China, Turkey and Mexico.

The old saying 'that you get what you pay for " is not entirely so with shotguns that are imported from these countrys there well made.

I will confess I hate that we have them and wish we all could buy American made.

The only caution I have is that hammers can be cocked without knowledge,especially by loose clothing or heavy brush,which shouldn't be a problem if used strictly for HD. ,,,sam.

Stay away from Traditions shotguns!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have seen several of the Mossberg O/U guns broke and some more than once...junk!

but anecdotally my friend had one before he got his Beretta and it was the biggest peice of junk I'd ever seen. It double fired on him constantly, the ejectors didn't clear the shells from the chambers because they were so sloppily fitted... Junk

Unless they've changed, I've found Turkish guns to be firing pin breakers.

We import junky guns and stamp them Webley and Scott or BSA, and so I have been told Churchill.

The people doing this are still at large and not spending time in one of Her Majesties holiday camps as they should be. British shotguns are now entirely high end; Purdey, Holland, Greener, Boss,

The Hatsan semi-autos are apparently very much a hit and miss job !.

Traditions O/U's are made in ITALY by FAUSTI. They are of a much better quality that the O/U's made in Turkey. I have one and would not hesitate to buy another.

I have a Hatsan escort magnum synthetic 12g auto that I bought as a cheap fun gun. Cost very little, 3 year warranty and 15000 rounds without a single stoppage or malfunction.

Yes, I totally agree, Brazilian and Turkish shotguns are complete junk.

But then again, it's hard to believe a well made gun, like Browning, comes from Japan..

I guess that the two DeHaan shotguns I have are the exception to the rule! I have a 20 ga SxS and a 28 ga O/U made by Huglu(same company that makes the CZ guns, but better finished internally by Mark DeHaan)

HOWEVER!!! High end Kimber shotguns are made in Turkey and they are quite nicely made.

I bought this inexpensive slightly used 12 Gage S/G, a Mossberg 500a, for $200. I believe it's gonna fill my needs during the next turkey season.

given that you really like the gun then it was a bargain.

There are some good buys in shotguns out there if you look around.

One thing I like to mention is to check the used gun racks at your dealer plus the pawn shops. Sometimes you can be surprised by what is on the shelf in terms of name brand shotguns with very little apparent use.
