Question about shotguns

I was just wondering is it okay to dry fire shotguns or not ? Some people say it is fine and others say that you should not dry fire at all because it will damage the firing pin, just wondering what your take is on this .

I do it a little but I would not do it a lot.
Most say dont do it at all.
How do you learn the shotgun rifle handgun if you dont practice dry fireing it?
Before I ever go to a range I have taken my firearms apart and put them back together and cleaned any new or used firearm. I hold them fire them use the safety.
Generaly know them inside and out.

Yes, it is fine to dry fire them, in fact it makes for good practice while sitting in front of the TV!

Personally,

I do not dry fire any of my guns. I do realize differing points of view exist on this matter.

In my opinion it depends on the gun. Quality brand guns normally don't have a problem, while cheaper guns tend to break the firing pin. I have only had one gun that the firing pin broke on, and it was a saturday night special.

This is the right answer.Any and all older breakopen shotguns with fireing pins will break the fireing pin.The M12 win will stick the fireing pin ahead and may slam fire when loaded. There are other things. If you can't find out for sure if it is safe, knock the fired primer out of an empty hull and stuff pencil eraser in the primer pocket or put that liquid plastic in and use like a snapcap.Or use a snapcap.I have several of all guages with standard loads but no powder or primer to test actions too.Do "NOT" dryfire without knowing it is ok. ,,,sam.

My CZ rifle owners manual tells me to dry fire the rifle after i put the bolt back in before puting it in storage etc and not to leave it cocked stressing the spring

It is ok to dry fire the 870, but be paranoid about checking any firearm that you dry fire. Check it, then check it again to make sure it is empty. You can't call it back if it goes off.

You want to buy another mossy or just another shotgun?

If its shotgun an 870 is a good choice. I like the ones I have.

The N E F Pardner pump is a good shotgun too. At least from what I see of the one I bot.

I also have a model 12 Winchester that I think is a great shotgun.

If you want to sell the house you can get a Benelli autoloader Super Black Eagle (SBE).
They are a very good quality shotgun.

If your looking for cheep the Savage/Stevens or H&R single shots are very good quality shotguns.

Thumbs up snap caps all the way

A lot of people say it is OK to dry fire even my CCW instructor. I just don't want to take a chance of messing up my firing pins so I always use snap caps mostly A-zoom in my pistols, rifles and shotguns.
