Which fits & feels better in your hands? Which looks better to your eyes?

That's all I ever worry about these days...both makers are long-lasting reliable companies, and both have had blow-up/jam/bad things happen. I could post dozens of pics of Glock blow ups & Sig blow-ups...these things happen to EVERY pistol manufacturer for a variety of reasons. Folks can nit-pick all they want, but bottom line, they are both great gun-makers.

Fit, feel, & look. Whatever makes you happier.

Or you can just say "Bugger 'em all!" and go with a Desert Eagle Multi-kit with 4 different barrels, but unless you are my size or bigger, ya ain't got a prayer of carrying it concealed

I have no problems with grip angle or anyting of that nature with any gun, im not picky, I love nearly all guns, plain and simple. But, I love the sound when I rack the slide on a Glock and load a round. Woody

Thats strange considering most federal agencies carry either sigs or 1911 springfield TRP's.

View Full Version : Just curious, what's the FBI duty gun?

I'm pretty sure the official FBI round is the .40. right? I read on wikipedia that the FBI allows it's officers (are they called that?) to carry the XD. Well anyways say, if a field agent was being issued a handgun what would it likely be? Could he pick his own? What about caliber?

What about DEA, the evil ATF, INS, etc. you know the alphabet soup organizations.

All the FBI agents around here carry the Glock 22 for and the 27 for a BUG.

I thought that FBI carried the Springfield Armory Professional 1911 .45ACP?

The FBI's HRT carries the Springfield while the "Special Agents" carry Glocks:barf:

FBI SWAT (including HRT) carries the Pro. The standard duty weapon is the Glock 22 and the 23, with the 27 often serving as backup.

And one FBI SWAT agent I know vastly prefers his 23 to the Pro.

I think their issue load is the 165 gr at 950fps in the .40. Compare that with the Border Patrol load of 155gr at 1200fps!

Some of the fbi guy's i know still carry the p228 and the sig pro2022. I have heard carrying the glock and springfield but that is the very few that like the bigger gun's.Since alot of them don't tend to draw there weapon's as much as a regular police officer i know they like the more compact style's. I know that the dhs part of the fbi are going to be issued or are going to start being issued the hk uspc or the p2000. Just like all the other dhs agent's and officer's except t.s.a.

When I went to the FBI building in DC, they had an agent put on a shooting demo. He said they are issued Glock 23s and they have the internal Lasermax as well. I don't know if all the agents gets the Lasermax treatment but his G-23 had one and he could put all his shots into a golf ball size hole rapid fire. I was impressed and also sold on the laser idea.

I think Glocks are good guns but they don't fit me worth a dam. I like my Beretta 92fs with Laser grips. I also prefer my XD-9 to the Glocks because they are more ergonomic. If Glock would try and design a grip that felt half way decent in my hand, I would buy one.

Most police in the USA carry Glock's

Does anyone know why the U.S. Military doesn't use Glocks? I know they use the Beretta, HK, and Sig, and I've heard some are using 1911's, but IDK...

Go to Glock's website, to pistol models and to G23

Taken from glock's website:

GLOCK 23 .40

GLOCK 23 Multi purpose .40 Compact dimensions for open and concealed
carry, minimum weight despite large magazine
capacity in .40 caliber. This and the reliability
of the GLOCK pistol known throughout the world,
which was demonstrated through tests and widespread
use by US law enforcement agencies, were decisive
arguments for the F.B.I. and countless police authorities
for introducing the GLOCK 23 as their official service pistol.

I like both Sigs and Glocks, but I'd go with whichever one you actually shoot better, all else being equal.

Toolman,

I believe the military does not use the Glock for the simple fact that it does not have a manual safety. All of the guns you mentioned have a safety. I guess they are afraid of the potential liability. I have a lot of friends that have went into the military strictly for the G.I. Bill. I love them to death, but half of them should not be handling a gun period. No prior gun experience at all. A couple of them are lacking in the common sense arena as well.

Just my guess.

Hmm still no real proof. Maybe I'll just invest in another 6 gun

Looks like every semi has so many problems they can't even make one worth a darn, from what you posted.

You are right..the military must go thru testing prior to adopting any sidearm and one of the requirements of that test is a manual safety.

Although there really is no reason for the military to switch from Berreta to Glock that I know of.

I have a friend that was in the 10th mountain in the army and they were issued a few glocks. Can't remember which model it was. His captain actually shot himself in the leg with his when he was playing around with it. Blamed it on not having a manual safety.

Where is this information posted?

In everything I read, the debate was 9mm or .45.
If the Military decided they were going back to the .45 then they would set up a competion for the several manufactures that produce .45 handguns.
Look what happened when the Goverment decided to look at the FN SCAR and HK M416 to replace the M16. Word got out and then the Goverment had to look at several manufactures of the 5.56.

Back to the thread:

I spent 5 minutes on the web.
Glock, SIG, H&K, S&W and Berreta are all mentioned with Gov. and LE across the country.
US Border patrol only listed the Berreta on their web site.
SIG did a great job of advertising their users. From their web site.
  • U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security (largest U.S. non-military contract)
  • U.S. Navy SEALs
  • U.S. Federal Air Marshals
  • U.S. Secret Service
  • U.S. Coast Guard
  • U.S. ATF
  • Federal Protective Service
  • Colombia: CNP 12,000 pistols; Army 800 precision rifles
  • France: over 250.000 SIG SAUER pistols in use by Police Nationale, Gendarmerie and Douanes
  • Chile PICH

  • Hong Kong Police – new P250
  • Canadian Military (P226)
  • U.S. Department of State Diplomatic Security
  • U.S. Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS)
  • U.S. Army 902d Military Intelligence Group (M11)

Sig doesn't have a manual safety, just a decocker. (The mosquito has a safety but the DOD has no interest in .22's)

I like to shoot, good ammo has become scarce, therefore I shoot anything I can stuff in my Glock 22. Some of the junk I have stuck in there embarrases me. I have never had a misfire, and it is as accurate as I am. I do clean it occasionally. So to sum it up, it is a self defense weapon and I am gonna buy me wife one. It is hard to miss your opponent with your weapon stuck in his gut.
If I wanna go to the range and show-off I take my S&W model 57 41mag

i love the sig trigger and think it is one of the best out there, but my carry gun is a glock, because it works, no hammer to dig into my side and it was cheaper brand new than the used sig

Because Glocks are lesser quality guns than the other above named guns. To compair a Sig to a Glock is like a Mercedes to a Kia.
