Ok I have two SKS's.... One is a Norinco and the only kind of "import" mark i can find is a stamp at the rear of the reciever that says 7.62x39 Made in China by Norinco KSI Pamona Ca. Is this an Import mark? The Other is a Yugo and there is an etched import mark on the barrel that says MDL. 59/66 yugo 7.63x39 C.A.I. Georgia, VT. Now Im pretty sure that is an import mark cause its looks similar to the ones on my Mosins. One of the issues im having is I thought they Added there own serial numbers to these import marks. I cant find any serial numbers other than the original ones stamped into the receiver at the factory. Is this typical of SKS's ?
Yes...KSI and CAI were importers and that is why they are stamped as such.
The SKS Guns Had fully readable serial numbers , so they werent required by BATFE to be re-numbered prior to sale.
Russian Mosins Used Unreadable Alphabet charachters in the serial numbers so they had to be renumbered by the importer. (It was actually for the sake of a Cop who might need to run the number so it had to be easy to read.)
