Mounting a scope on a Yugo

Would it be better to buy a receiver cover that has the weaver style rail and accu-shot 1'' tactical rings, or buy a mount that fits behind the iron sight. Does it not even matter? Just a preference?

The funny thing I just went and got another m59/66 because I missed having an SKS. I got one of those that fit behind the bolt carrier group, but it also had locking screws that you screw into the side of the lower receiver. I had an armorer fir mine in properly at the gun show i went to in Baltimore yesterday. It's super tight, this thing will not budge at all. So, I got the gun, rail mount, and a 4x scope aim sport scope all fitted professionally in 1 day. I can't wait to go sight this thing in the next time I get a chance to go shooting. It's gonna be fun. hope your mount works out good.

SKS are fun to shoot. I found a UTG 5th gen hi profile mount, the cool thing is being able to still use the iron sights while the mount is on. What mount did you get?

yeah I got that one, where you can stil see your iron sights. I'm gonna need a cheek piece for this rifle beacuse my scope sits up so high. but, that mount is locked solid in place on my m59/66a1. Thank god for armorers at guns shows right?

This is my 3-4th one and last one, it's real solid. Also have the peep in for iron sight. Got them at cheaperthandirt, only place I could find them at the time.

I want one of the ones that drill and tap into the receiver that come low over the rear cover, but I cant remember who makes them. I had one of the ones that screwed "tight" from the sides but it was the biggest waste of $10 I have spent in a long time.

I've had really good luck with my receiver mount. It took some patience in identifying all the screws that needed loctite, but the last three times my Yugo SKS has come out of the safe, the zero was right where I left it. It is also a Cheaper than Dirt set-up. I've got less than $100 in scope and mount. And I can still use the iron sights.

Granted, I only shoot 100 yards. Maybe I just got lucky.

Come on now. It's a battle rifle. Test your skills and save the scopes for your hunting and target rifles.

But seriously. If you're going to put a scope on it, the best mount is one that mounts from the side. Like the Choate scope mount linked above.

As for the receiver cover type scope mount, they aren't the best. And they're hard on scopes, especially cheap scopes. Using a Buffer Tech recoil buffer does and can help some.

Thumbs up

I have had good performance from both the simpler cover mount and the type using the four set screws. The trick to the simple mount is to get one NEW (with slightly oversized 'prongs') and fit it to the SKS - it will be for THAT SKS only. It may loosen eventually, but has held up so far.
I have used a full length scope on my Yugo for testing ammo, but only with the gas valve 'off' so it becomes a 'straight-pull bolt-action', and doesn't ding the bottom of the scope. The Yugo is quite accurate with good ammo - not the Wolf stuff!
Normally though, I keep it 'clean' with no scope.

What do you think about a 3-9x40 Barska huntmaster scope? I think it would be okay for an SKS

I put this one piece reciver cover mount on my bubbaed Yugo. it is very solid. the cover and pin are a very tight fit. You can also use the iron sights. I don't know if they are still made or not and the place I bought it from is no longer in business.
