FWIW BAdKarma, I struggle getting the stripper clip to load all in a ten round mag. Seems like the first five, once or if I can get them started, go smoothly, but the other five have to be finagled in. lol

So don't feel bad. And I did have some clips that were tweaked in some sorts.

I have gotten better with practice and thus loading with clips has become easier as well.

I tried an aftermarket 5 round mag ( KS requires 5 round cap for hunting), wasnt worth the effort so I bought a .30-30 instead. The 5 round mag wouldnt stay in place, and was difficult to feed rounds into. SOme people have success with after market mags from 5 to 30 cap. I think I'll stick with the intended 10 round factory mag.

In Canada we have a restriction of 5 rds in semi auto center fire , with one exception for the 8rd M1 Garand .
( Trying to figure out politicians decisions reminds me too much of my ex and I get a headache , The vast majority of these lawmakers are completely firearm illiterate )

3 rd restrictions on shotguns
No restrictions on rimfire or any bolt action rifles.
If we want to legally purchase a SKS , they've already bubba'd the mags

Using a 10rd stripper clip , place your thumb over the 5th rd and insert.
When I tried to push down on all 10 , the 6th rd fell out onto the floor.
I have not tried this yet but I will very soon .... is to pinch the 10rd clip inbetween the 5th and 6th rd to help hold the remaining 5 secure in the clip until it's needed.

5rd block welded into the mag

Are you missing the notch on the bolt?

I saw a post somewhere that said he used a chisel to pinch and possibly cut the stripper clip in half for 5 round use. The mag shouldn't be at fault since it's just blocked, unless the block needs a little adjustment. I would definitely try the pinch trick on a clip or two. I'm looking at doing something similar due to Minnesota 5 round limit on deer rifles. My block will be removeable so I have 10 rounds for zombies. <G> JB

Pinching the clip would be better , IMHO
When the clip is cut , there's room for error since the bullets will only come out one way and a 5rd cut clip can be put in upside down.
Theres no mistake by just looking at ( or simply by feel) which way a pinched clip will feed.
