| Registered User | Hey YugoM59/66, First off, I am by no means as experenced and as smart as most of these guys but I have removed two pins. Mine was the first and I couldn't budge the pin by using a punch and hammer. I actually made matters worse by swelling both ends of the pin and had to drill it out. I really don't recommend this as the metal is sort of scarce in that area. Eventually the hole was slowly drilled, the new pin installed and everything is fine. The second, was my son's rifle. Not wanting to drill another, I tried the punch and within a few minutes, the old pin was out and the new pin (the one that comes with the stock) was in place and working fine. A local gun shop wanted $25.00 to remove the pin. This might be the way to go, I just figured that $25.00 would buy more ammo. Just a suggestion, maybe try a little penetrating oil at the pin and let sit for a day will help. Like Grissom on "Vegas CSI" says, when you want to go fast, go slow. Hopefully this long story will help you out. Good Luck |

| Registered User | Way to go! Wished I'd have thought of that. That's the neat thing about good, reputable companies. We (son & I) also have the Choate Draganov stocks and really like the look it gives to the SKS. Like you, we're going through the 10 part replacement to satisfy the Feds. Problem is, how to verify that the new parts are actually U.S. made. Would like to see some pix of your SKS when finished. Happy Shooting! |

| Super Moderator ![]() | There are some tell tale signs. With AK pistons, you can tell by the material and the number of rings in the piston. With SKS parts, a lot of the common accessories are only made in the US, like the synthetic stocks and detachable mags. Tapco now marks all their US parts US made. If there's a company marking, that would count. The only parts where markings should matter would be direct replacements for internal parts. And take a little pride in it. Instead of thinking of it as satisfying the feds, think of it as sticking it to the auto transmission fluid guys who desperately need an excuse to exist. Think of it as being able to have your way with your guns through innovation, and that they'll have to look elsewhere for someone to prosecute, and if they try to find fault with you then the joke's on them because you're many steps ahead of them.
