While I agree with killing quickly and efficiently, it is for a bit of a different reason. Do something you can be proud of…anything that you are going to take the time to attempt, you should attempt with the most skill and proficiency you can muster…after all, a monkey can pull a trigger and hit something. So choose not to be a monkey, aim, breathe, and squeeze, be confident and know before you reach the animal where your shot landed.

If he can be confident about his shot placement, then that's certainly a fine choice.

He obviously can... headshot.. Very nice, Yo. He looks a bit pained though, for whatever reason.

Cool

Jesse's comment on the primers is something to keep in mind,it may naver cause a problem but wait a moment after your shot with American ammo before taking your muzzle away from the fire zone.
If you are shooting and want to see the possibility, eject the next round you are about to fire after fireing a previous one and see if you don't have a dent in the primer from that free floating pin, some are deeper than others.:lucky:

Lightbulb

Just thought of it,if you plan on shooting a lot of American ammo you might consider getting a titanium firing pin, lighter, hence less momentum and less chance of a slam fire.:uzi:

The boy is worried about how the picture will turn out with all that hunter blaze orange.
the movie "Home Alone" comes to mind.

My two sons, both used SKS's to bag their first and second deer. Now they have graduated to 308 and 6.5x55.
Pics lost in archives somewhare.

Hahah-- you're right FM, he looks kind of like Mccully Culken or however the crap you spell that weirdo's name. Cool photo though, and he doesn't look nearly as girly as the "home alone" kid.

I think we all looked goofy as pre-pubescent kids. A diamond in the rough.

AlleninAlaska - I think that where the 300 yard reference came from was my first post in this thread. If you read my post, I was not recommending taking 300 yard shots with the SKS, though the SKS with 700 plus lbsft of energy at about 300 yards is almost as much punch as a .45ACP at 25 yards, which is certainly enough to take down a deer, or a man. What I was recommending was to limit the longest shots to 200 to 225 yards, because of the accuracy limitations, and, too, the need to carry or drag the animal to your transportation. Not all of us have or use ATV's, and many of us have to hoof it from their vehicle into the hunting area, and hoof it back!

Three hundred yards is a long way to carry or drag a 125 plus pound animal (it is dead weight), and the terrain can make it extremely difficult. It is not the same as me picking up my 110 lb girlfriend and putting her over my shoulder, which I do when I catch her off guard. I could handle most terrain conditions myself, but at 70 years old, I can get a bit tired over a long haul. Not all of us are such physical specimen that could compete for strength championships.

What if you're 300 yards away from your truck, and a deer starts to pick the lock on it, and hotwire it? I'd go for it then.

Heck, if the deer did that, forget the truck - let him have it. I'd make sure to have a video capable camera and get an award for the footage that paid for multiple new trucks. Now if I could convince the deer to go into business with me, I'd buy him Class IV body armor for his days in the field.

Acording to the NRA tests on the new LEVERevolution ammo from Hornady they're getting unbelieveable results in 30-30's. They actually zeroed at 200 yards. The velocity and power at close to 300 yards was the same or better than the old stuff was at around 100.
It's amazing what good ballistics will do for you.

Want to make any guesstimates of the number of soldiers killed by the 7.62x39 @ 300+ yds?

This is might be my first post here, but I aint no stranger to forums. Alot of people (hunters) where I live use the 7.62x39mm. Most use the SKS. Everyone I know has a Yugo and alot have more than one. One day at the range, my buddy and myself setup at the 300 yard line, the local expert (the guy that lives at the range) proclaimed my buddy would not hit the B-27 target we set up at 300 yards. He pressed the trigger 10 times as fast as he could re-align the sights (opensights), we walked to the 300 yard line (local expert came with us) and inspected the target. There was a nice 10" group center of mass.

I only had enough time to kill one deer last year and it fell to the 7.62x39mm. I was shooting Ulyanovsk 124 grain JHP and the deer had two broken shoulders an entry and exit wound with plenty of damage inbetween.

Around here the hunters keep it inside 300 and typicaly dont take a shot if they cann't make it. I don't know a single hunter that shoots farther than they know they can. I can do it out to 300, but I wont take a shot past 200. My reason is if it is farther than 200, I want to hunt it before I kill it.
