SKS NOOB it was the way she laughed that got you frightened,I know what you mean

I'm finding out you can mod. a SKS but it doesn't mean it will work properly.

You are correct. The best mods have been the Tapco 20rnd clip and the rear sight replacement mount for scopes. That's what I would look into if I had a bigger budget.

My sks is happy only when I am... When it comes down to it alter or don't alter your gun to fit yourself. When it comes down to legality, 922r is not enforced at all, and I would be surprised if anyone got in trouble, and I don't know where you are buying ak's but my mods cost $100, I've never found one that cheap, I'd take my sks over an ak any day

It's not a good thing to say ignore the legality of your weapon!

Yeah lol, my dad got his Ruger M77 MKII about 10 years ago for $300 that came with scope, rings, Ruger Synthetic stock (in .270). Now the same gun without rings and scope would probably run $2000 just for the fact that Ruger no longer makes that stock anymore and people scrambling for any and everything.

I'm fortunate I guess. My wife likes to shoot and doesn't complain about the "gun buying". The stripper clips are awesome and I'd never change. My 14yr old daughter has learned to shuck rounds with them without unshouldering her weapon. She just goes... click/SHUCK! "ping" (*rack*) POP! POP! POP!... click/SHUCK! "ping" (*rack*) POP! POP! POP!... I want to post her on youtube doing that. It's quite impressive. She'd do well in a firefight, although she blows away alot of ammo.

I've made no mods to my Tula SKS. I bought a beat up chinese and put a tech site on it for the longer sight radius and ease in zeroing. I put an orange front sight pin on it, and a muzzle brake. I shoot my chinese a lot and I love it. After reading several accounts of slam fires, I did a lot of research on it and ordered the murray spring kit for peace of mind. I gladly let anyone shoot my SKS at the range, and I would hate to have something happen to someone. I had 2 slam fires in a 4 month period, and it just made sense to install one. I might also add that the original SKS, as designed by the Russians, had a firing pin spring.

I wouldn't mind a side mount or scout mount, firing pin spring, and recoil buffer. Maybe a stock refurb.

Yes, i would dare put a side mount on a SKS. However, i have a burr in the chamber so until i get that fixed i have a 50 year old yugoslavian straight pull.

I made some MINOR mods to my norinco, I put a "monte carlo" stock on it from A.T.I ( the original had to short a length of pull for me) took the bayonet off and mounted a bi-pod, I also bought a second receiver cover a one piece with picatinny rail for optics, tried a few after market mags ( not a good idea) ended up just sticking with the fixed 10 round mag. I have since put the original reciever back on. Other than that it works best the way it is. My mods were purely cosmetic and for personal preference.
