| Member | M59/66 gastube needed Does anyone have a M59/66 gas-tube they'd part with? I'm looking for one with a shiny corrosion free bore - don't care too much about exterior blueing or wood hand guard. Please send me an e-mail if you do? Thanks |

| Moderator ![]() | TAPCO has a new one, though it's "tactical" styled and ain't cheap! TAPCO-World's finest shooting and military gear - Parts You might give Century Arms a call to see if they have some take-offs in excellent condition.

| Member | Thanks for the tips Big Dog - going to keep rifle "OEM" so have tried all of the mail order dealers etc. w/o success. Center Fire has YUGO "repair kits" but can't guarantee gas tube will be corrosion free as parts were stripped from "bottom of the barrel" $99.00 sale specimens that didn't sell! I sent cert. check to a guy who offered me one on another forum but looks like I have been stiffed - bummer when that happens. |

| Member | Guys, Thanks very much for the suggestions - CTD has the "tactical" aftermarket gastube/handguard but had no OEM tubes to sell. I've sent e-mails to all importers/parts sources I can find contact info for w/o success to date. Problem I'm being told is that MANY of the more recent imported Yugo's have this corrosion issue and OEM gastubes have been a "hot" item. Looked at 5 Yugo's [all but one were CAI imported still in cosmo] last Saturday in three different local gunshops/stores, 3 of 5 had very corroded bores and nasty gastubes/ valves but were listed as "very good" to "excellent grade"! I bought one of the two [ it is "Cherry's Inc." import]that had good bores and gas systems, but sure would like to get my other rifle operational. Thanks again. |

| Member | Totally Tubular! Well I'll be darned!!!!! a priority mail package just appeared in my mailbox - inside was gas tube that I'd paid for but had given up ever seeing! No explanation of anykind as to why the 2 week period of silence but oh well.....I now have a very good condition replacement 'tube and can get the Yugo shooting!!! |

| Member | ARGH!! After a very serious cleaning the 'tube bore still looks pretty decent, some pitting but appears to be behind area of piston stroke so shouldn't be a problem. BUT the tube body is shorter in overall length than original one [yes the replacement is from a YUGO 59/66!!]. I'm going to have a certified welder friend put a small amount of weld on the "small end" then hand file it for very snug/tight fit to rifle. I'll let ya'all know how that works out! |

| Moderator ![]() | Maybe try a ring ("O-ring", perhaps?) of copper wire between the tube and the gas valve body? Before permanently altering it.

| Member | Did the "wire O-ring" trial deal, and it took a heavy guage paperclip wire to get it tight. Am going to do a careful weld/fit to make it permanent - welder buddy is a certified aircraft welder/fabricator, also does alot of "fancy" welding work on ChampCar and ALMS racecars so this will be simple for him to do. |

| Senior Member | Hum I haven't seen anything yet on the conversion. You can however get up to 40 round magazines that are detachable for the SKS. I have been going thru pages and pages of SKS Stuff and according to what I have seen get the magazines from Tapco. I have a 30 Round magazine on mine but I have yet to try it out. I am not sure who made it but I will let you know how it goes. |

| Senior Member | If you can find some one to do the job it would require a good bit of machining which would permanently alter the receiver, and if its not done right it wont work. Plus the bolt would need to be modified to work with the AK mags. And once its done you have to make sure of the U.S. parts count or the gun is Illegal. You could probably find a legal SKS-D or M cheaper than you could convert one. And be careful of the SKS detachable Mags. With out the proper part count there Illegal to use to. |
