Chinese SKS

I have an early Chinese SKS aquired in 1989. I don't see any maker on it.It has a screw in chrome lined barrel, 20 rd fixed mag, cuniform bayonet. It has factory code 0148 on it. Any ideas who may have made it, or where I would look to find a maker of that code? Though reliable, it throws fist size groups at 50 yds.

I'm not sure who made it but I understand the chinese SKS's that come with origninal 20 round magazines are quite rare.

In all honesty, I must add that the gun came with a 10 rd fixed mag, and the 20 was added right after purchase. They were readily available back then for about $15.

Just remeber to keep that gas tube clean. Chinese ammo is usually corrosive and the gas tube is not chrome lined.
Funny story. I once got paid with a chinese SKS for doing a job. At the time I was shooting tournamaents. loaded some good ammo, did a trigger job, and installed a peep sight on it. Couldn't hit a barn with good ammo. With the cheapest chinese ammo you could find the rifle would nearly one hole @ 100yds. With the first shot of the tournanment the rifle wasn't sighted in. I actually hit outside of the scoring ring.
I cranked on the windage knob a couple of times and ended up winning second place with a match grade SKS. What a contradition of terms.I use to get off on out shooting those custom rigs with either a junk gun or with shooting castbullets.

chcode

Here's a listing of known Chinese manufacturers of SKS carbines - it's a few years old. Manufacture of these guns was virtually a cottage industry over there, with many prefectures building them for their local police forces. New undocumented codes occasionally surface.
No telling where exactly most are made.

A few tricks can improve the group size. My favorite is to put a bit of cardboard 'filler' beneath the barrel in the stock forend - it'll tighten the slop there, and reduce vertical stringing.
Also, try a box of Remington or Winchester commercial ammo, and see if the accuracy improves. Wolf and most other military-grade ammo aren't consistent, and shoot lousy.

I am interested in buying a fixed 20 round mag for my chinese SKS. I cannot find them anymore at the gun shows but I want one, I will also trade plus a little cash if someone wants my 10 round fixed.
