Please help me

Please help me identify the stuff in this picture. What kind of stock, mount, and scope is that in the pic posted by Zephri? I'm about to get an SKS, and really want to build one like this. Thanks in advance...

Yeah, I did, and he didn't reply. (not to call him out on here, probably just didn't see it). I know I posted in the picture thread as well, but obviously that was the first thing I tried.

Well the stock looks to me like a fiberforce or variant (they are nice I have one on my mac 91)here is a web site with some similar resaonably priced SKS Stocks

the bipod appears to be a harris (use these on a couple rifles of mine) look here for one Harris Bipods - Rifle Bipods - UWS knock offs can probably be had at cheaper prices

here is a similar scope mount SKS Military Rifle Scope Mounts

or here you can a mount and a scope SKS Main Page

and from the pic I cant tell what the scope is at all so that is the best I can do. tell you what just send your new sks to me and I'll set it up for you. LOL

Here is the Stock Choate Dragunov SKS Stock - Black ON SALE

The Scope mount has a nice clean line but your would be better off with this one SKS Scope Mount by Choate

The Scope as best as i can tell Barska 4x21 AO SKS Electro Sight Riflescope AC10808 w/ free UPS Ground Shipping

Dave is correct on the bipod Harris

Thanks guys, I appreciate it. I've never like the receiver cover mounts on anything, but that one looks pretty high quality...

The trouble with the receiver mounts is that no matter how well there made they want hold zero. there is a little more expense going with the drill and tap side mount but in the end you will be much more happy with your results.

Note that the Choate stock is worlds better than the ATI. You'll probably be sorry if you get the ATI.

Note also that the front end would require a good bit of custom or home gunsmithing work.

Finally, note that modifications to an SKS that take it out of the original config like adding a t-hole/drag stock will violate import laws IF you do not manage your US parts count. Read the sticky in this forum if you don't know what I'm talking about.

FWIW, the receiver mounts can be made to hold solidly with just a bit of work and less than $1 worth of material. I've posted before about drilling and tapping mine for a screw that contacts the lower part of the retaining pin to pull the cover down against the receiver. You can also fabricate a bracket to bolt to the rear of the mount that wraps around the rear of the receiver with locking screws to stabilize the mount against the sides of the receiver.

Sorry at4rxj I've been kind of lazy lately give a few minutes to list everything on the gun.

Ok.

First i'll start with the muzzle brake it's a ricks muzzle brake He has lots to choose from, I have the 9 port version.

next the stock, it's a choate stock from combat stocks.com

now the scope mount SKS-852 - SKS Value Pack Scope, Mount Manual, Stripper Clips, Tool - Manufactured by: Advanced Technology

now the scope it's a barska sks scope which i bought of of optics planet.com
I'm planing on replacing the barska scope with a side mount posp scope soon (I'll let everyone know how that goes later.)

the bipod is a 9" harris bipod.

and last but not least the buffer is from buffer tech.

I also plan on having the trigger worked on soon too.

Anyways sorry for being a lazy ass on replying to your pm at4rxj.

LOL man, I hate that it came across as me ragging on you. I just REALLY liked the way your SKS looks. You did an excellent job, and I want to do a similar build.

Nice work

let me give you a few tips for this project that you guys might find handy. first when removing the front sight you will need a Big block of hard wood like a log on a concrete floor (the block is so you don't damage the barrel and it makes easier to pound the sight off because it doesn't absorb as much energy as a table or something.). remove the two sight pins, also remove the GL attachment. Place the barrel crown down on the block of wood and use a heavy hammer to pound Hard straight down on the bayonet lug until it comes off.

btw you did not come off as ragging me, I just get a bit lazy some times. anyways have fun with your project can't wait to see it.

Does your scope mount stay tight? I have had nothing but trouble also I have the same scope the Barska and it broke today I am not happy with that at all. So I am thinking about throwing the towel in on my SKS build. I may try toolmans idea on the scope mount though before I give in completely.

yes my receiver cover does stay tight, but I'm going to put a receiver mounted posp side mount on it so I can put a better scope on it.

Really mine only stays tight for about 40 shots. But it doesn't matter at the moment cause the scope broke.
