| Bayonet question My son was just given a Chinese SKS for his birthday. Now I am fairly proficient with mechanical parts on many different items, but for the life of me I cannot extend the bayonet. Any instruction would be greatly appreciated. More than likely I am going to replace it with a bipod but my son thinks it is cool. ![]() |

Hold the bayonet near the hinge, where there is a textured surface. There is a notch by the hinge that it sits in until you pull down on it and swing it forward. It could be gunked up or rusty, so it might take a bit of force. Once you fold it out straight, there is a ring that goes over the end of the barrel. You have to pull it out against the spring to get it over the barrel and that locks it in place.

A soak in some sort of solvent like WD-40 might fix it. Otherwise, it might be a defect in the design of the bayonet itself...maybe some work with a dremel to remove any obstructions in the hinge area? I'd have to see it to know for sure.

| Senior Member | Yea everything is clean. But like you said it's a newer china made bayo, so the lope probably is not to exact spec, I need to go at it with a dremel but honestly I don't put the bayo up. The problem is when other people touch it I look back and they have the damn thing extended. ![]() |

| Senior Member | I bought a cheap $4 Chinese Bayonet and it works very well. Its not loose, but not too tight either. I may have just got a good one though. Quote:
The main reason I have it there is it lessens muzzle rise because of the added weight.
