I'm not saying this is what it is because I'm not claiming to be an expert. That said, I would have checked the firing pin for sticking and or freedom of movement.

Read here about the firing pin problems. The SKS has a floating firing pin with no spring and if it gets gunked up will stick out and fire upon the bolt sliding shut. This is called slam fire. Lots of info here if you read a bit. There are some posts not far below about this very same thing.

You have experience what is call a slam fire this is caused by the firing pin being stuck in the forward position. This can be caused by several things bent firing pin,a piece of pierced primer usually happens more often with Wolf ammo or the bolt and firing pin channel was not cleaned properly to begin with before the rifle was fired.

I am assuming your have a YUGO SKS these rifle are stored in cosmoline its a thick waxy grease that get into everything including the trigger group and bolt assembly the rifle should be broken down first and cleaned before ever being shot even if it looks clean the internal parts like the bolt are probably not. I would take the bolt out and boil it in hot water at least a good 45 min. then flush out the firing pin channel thought the front of the bolt with break cleaner the use high pressure air to blow it out good and see if the pin rattles freely when shaken back and forth DO NOT OIL THE FIRING PIN. if it does not then you either have a bent pin or the channel is still dirty. Info on how to break down and clean your SKS along with the bolt disassembly can be found here. Collecting and Shooting the SKS Carbine - HISTORY

By the way if you have to take the firing pin out put your bolt in the freezer for a few hours makes taking the firing pin retain pin out allot easier, use a big hammer, put the bolt on a steel socket over the small hole in the socket and on a solid surface ie concrete floor and use a steel punch like a ground down nail set punch that fits the size of the pin.

If all else fails and the pin needs to be replaces you can have a spring loaded pin installed in your bolt which will eliminate this problem. SKS Owners
