| Yugo SKS Gas Port Switch Question
I can't find an answer to this question in the SKS manual I have. As we all know, the Yugo SKS comes with a grenade launcher. There is a switch that has two positions, 12 o'clock and 2 o'clock, on the gas block. When the switch is in the 2 o'clock position, it holds down the grenade launcher sight and allows a clear line of sight to the front sight. When it is in the 12 o'clock position, you can't see the front sight clearly and you can lift the grenade launcher sight. I am assuming the 2 o'clock position is the normal shooting position, and the 12 o'clock position is what you use when you're using a blank to launch a rifle grenade. Is this correct? |

Try shooting it with the gas switch "off" - straight up. Use good commercial ammo. You are basically shooting a straight-pull bolt-action. You'll be amazed at the enhanced accuracy, without that reciprocating mass throwing things off!

I'll have to try that, Big Dog. I enjoyed the daylights out of shooting it at the range - it has about the same kick as the M-1 carbine - and the grenade launcher seems to completely eliminate muzzle blast - but I was all over the paper at 100 meters shooting offhand with Combloc military ammo. (Part of that is me, my eyes aren't what they were when I was a kid, but I did think the SKS was more accurate than that!) Next step: dig out a metal file and work on the replacement receiver cover with the picatinny rails so I can mount a scope on it. I'll be mounting a 4 x 37 mil-dot first, and if that doesn't bring things into focus I'll look for something with better magnification. |

I thought when shooting it with the gas port switch in the grenade launch position,12 O'clock, that it will not eject properly? LMK G_Meister |

Hence my use of the term - "Straight-pull bolt-action". You need to cycle it manually.
