PSG1 Style grip

Hi. I'm new to the forum and want to first say I think the info available here is great! I was wondering if anyone knows of a PSG1 style hand grip that is available for the SKS with a Tapco T6 stock? I really like this grip and would love to incorporate one on my Russian SKS. Any help is greatly appreciated!! Thanks!!!

That's going to be tough, since the SKS doesn't have a pistol-grip already and that's what's required for the PSG-1 type of grip.

He's got a t6 stock so it already has a PG. I'm not sure what else would fit though.

Ah, I wasn't aware of that. Though, from what I understand, the pistol-grip stocks for the SKS's are one-piece polycarbonate, which would not allow for removal and replacement of the grip.

A picture and/or explanation of what kind of grip setup he has would help.

I concur with JAC, I was thinking the exact same thing.

The only other thing, if it's the base on that grip he's liking, if it's the one I'm thinking of, which is why a picture or 2 or 3 would help, what about custom making just the base for the grip? Because after just taking a look (doing an image search) at the SKS stocks available, as JAC said, the grips are molded onto or as part of the stocks and not removable. At least on the ones that came up in the image search I just did anyhow. Just a thought anyhow.

PSG-1 Grip

FIrst Thank you to those that replied. Sorry for such a long delay in getting back to you. The T6 stock IS one piece as you assumed. That being said it seems making what I want may be the only option. I have not been able to locate one of these grips locally to look at it BUT it looks like the palm rest may be a seperate piece. Does anyone know if that is the case? If so, maybe I can just buy the palm rest piece and modify it to fit as needed. Pics of grip and stock are attached. Thanks for all your help!

The Tapco T6 stock is a 3 piece deal. The telescoping part slips into the rear of the stock and is held there with two bolts. The pistol grip is also attached to the stock with a lag bolt. If you had a pistol grip in PSG 1 style, it could probably be modified to fit, but I can't say how easy or difficult it would be to do.

Not sure if that one is, but they do make them for both AR's and CETME/G3's:
AR-15 - Grips-Florida GunWorks
CETME/G3 - Stocks-Florida GunWorks

Thanks again! I think I am going to try to make a palm rest to fit the Tapco grip. I'll let you know how it turns out!

You should be able to do it... I would imagine it would just take a hole drilled through the palm shelf from left to right on both sides and then inserting a flat-base screw on both sides that would allow it to be tightened-down against the sides of the grip. Admittedly, it might look a little "bubba'd", but it would probably work.

I would build an entirely new grip from wood that would fit where the Tapco is and then paint it a matte black. The only problem is that not everyone has the tools to do that.

I have a heavy fiberglass pistol grip that was purchased with my sks many years ago(good ole days) that installs by drilling where the stock spring is. Has anyone had any experiences with these? I would like to keep the origional wood stock, since it was already butchered when I got it I wouldnt mind trying it out. Also has anyone noticed any wear on reciever because of the carrier slamming into it? I know about the loose tolerances, but is this normal? Thanks in advance for input.

Any chance you can post a pic of this pistol grip? I'd be interested to see it. Thanks!

Yes. They all do that as far as I know. The recoil is powerful enough that it slams the bolt carrier into the rear of the receiver. Mine is dented there. I recently put a redneck recoil buffer there that works temporarily. Duct tape! lol I'll have to get a pic of it. It wears out really fast, but it does prevent the bolt carrier from violently smashing into the rear of the receiver.

This is what the rear of my receiver looks like \/\/

And this is the redneck solution!
