| Senior Member | I need to know how to get the bolt apart, seriously. My SKS is firing when send the bolt home. No, i didn't depress the trigger, didn't touch the trigger, i just let the bolt go home on a round and it fired. I was told that gunk on the firing pin is the prime cause of this, so i have got to get it apart and clean it. Any forthcoming help would be very much appreciated. Thank's in advance. |

| Senior Member | I tred it, just like the site said, but the pin wouldn't budge. Got me a punch and a hammer, placed the bolt between two blocks and gave it some really good whacks. No matter what i did that retaining pin wouldn't budge. I sprayed gun scrubber through it, and then blew it out with compressed air. The pin moves back and forth freely now, like it's supposed to. I'm going to take it someplace with a good backstop and give it one more try, if it does it again, it's going to a gunsmith, period. Thanks for the link Moose. |

| Senior Member | I've had no problems with mine, but I've still taken mine and my Dad's apart to clean them. All you need is a solid base, a very small punch or a tiny screwdriver(that's what I used) and a hammer. It takes some good wacks, but it will come out.

| Member | Throw the bolt in the freezer for an hour and give it a really good whack, it will come out. I had the same problem with mine when I picked it up from my friend, slamfiring. Turned out to be a nasty burnt piece of cosmoline but I played hell getting the firing pin retainer out. Hope that helps! |

| Senior Member | My SKS is fine, just to let you know. I had to resort to some serious and desperate cleaning methods, but when i finally got that firing pin to float free, she shot like a dream. I guess there was just years and years of gunk built up around the firing pin hole on the inside of the bolt. But there ain't any left there now. Thanks people! |

| Senior Member | Good to hear that she's running good again! If you do ever have to try to take it apart again though....Shoot the little firing pin retaining pin with a heavy dose of PB B'laster and let it sit for 5-10min. Then maybe soak it again and let it sit again for another 5-10min. That's what I've done for many press in type pins on my firearms. It frees them up enough so that you can drive them out, but if you clean them up good like you were going to anyhow, it will lock back in just as she was when you tried to take it out. Good luck! |

| Senior Member | What I did to my bolt is boiled some soapy water and dipped the bolt in for a little while and that got all the cosmo out pretty well.
