Gas Tube help

I was trying to replace my original gas tube hand guard with a composite one. However, I was not able to get the pin out, despite trying all suggested methods. So, instead I just pulled the metal end clip off with pliers and filed down the pin. The hand guard is a little loose with it installed, but besides that it seams fine. Do you think this will cause problems when I shoot it or will it be fine?
