I got to thinking of something and felt I should express it here.
Althjough I've never had one happen to me as of yet, and with the new firing pin and spring kit from Murray's I put in the Yugo SKS, I shouldn't have top worry about it either. Don't know about the Romanian yet.
But, with what happened to that poor guy, the National Guardsmen that was a instructor, and after hearing what happened to him from simply loaning a rifle to someone to train with and a part breaking and causing it to fire in full auto, I personally would hate to have a slamfire happen and have a cop or some other individual there hear/observe it and call on me and me go through what they did, all because of something I could have prevented.
I mean from what I read with that situation, even though everyone knew a part broke, the guy still got screwed, and screwed big time. Most know of these slamfires now. I would think that still wouldn't matter, one could still get screwed the same, and personally, I'd rather not take a chance. Anything can happen at anytime, and if I can prevent it, you get bet your sweet arse I'm gonna...
If spending roughly $40 bucks prevents a slamfire from happening and me from ever having to go through what that guy did, IT'S WELL WORTH IT and DAMN GOOD MONEY SPENT!!!

Pahsketty was one. Anuminum was another. Anyone have any others they can think of or remember?

I have six SKS's and am not about to install that stuff in every bolt. Out of the thousands of rounds thru the SKS's, I had one double. If you super clean the bolt, you will minimize it. These were combat guns and they weren't in the least concerned that a gun may double. Practice safe range habits, and put in only 2-3 rds the first few times when you first test ANY semi auto. There are people who get a cosmo gun, wipe it, spray a little cleaner and go to town. Then they plop in a 10 rd clip and test. They are an accident waiting for a place to happen.

I most definitely agree with M14. I have seen Mosin's at the range with cosmo everywhere. SKS's do not have to be really dirty for the firing pin to stick though. Some exceptionally dirty-firing ammo is all it takes on a long day at the range. As my son, and soon my grandson's will be firing my SKS, I just feel more comfortable knowing that this is one less safety issue to be concerned about.

I'm not sure about any of the others, but the later Chi-Coms have a lightening cut in the side of bolt to reduce the mass and minimize slamfires.

Not a bad price compared to what the avg. price is now. I consider the ChiCom's to be the best shooters although I know some will say otherwise. Do they still have factory mags or aftermarket?

^I'd buy it in a heartbeat considering what ammo is going for these days. That's less than $150 for each SKS.

Murray's Gunsmithing www.murraysguns.com deals with the slamfire problem. They sell a firing pin with return spring to be installed in an altered bolt. This effectively returns it to the original configuration.
I haven't installed this mod yet, so can't give an opinion on it's effectiveness. However an interesting presentation on the site, and what looks like a sensible solution.

I cant find rounds for under twenty cents round so (uhh math) 200.00 in rounds - 425 - 200= 225/2 = 112.50 a rifle.(i think)

I did the Murray mod in mine, just to be sure I didn't have a slamfire. It was a easy fix. Does any one know what the outcome of that "Slamfire Incident" was ?

Which slam fire incident do you speak of? The one with the National Guard instructor and the AR15? If so, he lost his job, all his retirement and is going to or is in jail, last I heard. Or was/is appealing it all. But they went after him full force, even knowing it was a part that broke that caused it all. They didn't care either way...
If that isn't the "incident" you're speaking of, I haven't a clue then...
