What is a fair price for an SKS these days?

Unfired Yugos seem to be approaching $400 in most areas, with excellent guns a little over $325. That doesnt mean that in some shows, worn garbage is priced lower. I have seen those $350 tags on beaters. Russians are usually $400-$550.

Even the worn garbage is priced at $300 at the last couple of gun shows I went to.

Last summer Yugos and Norincos could be found in the $150 to $250 range on every table, last January they were all double that. Same thing with AKs. Last summer a WASP could be had for near $300, now $600 is base. We've come a long way from when my brothers bought several cases of unissued Norincos for $79 each.

I bought a Norinco at a gun show about 8 months back or so, all the #'s matched and was is great condition. I picked it up for $325 I believe it was and I gotta say, was a heckuva investment. It's tons of fun to shoot and have since found a few different makers for ammo, including, Wolf, Winchester, and Remington. Never had a single jam misfire or failure to feed in over 1500 rounds. I did buy an after market stock for it as the original was a little on the small side for me. Anyway congrats on the purchase, happy shooting.

Yeah,I remember those days,nothing comeing in to the country but Yugos now.

On my honeymoon I came across a laminated Russian for the low price of $850 (bubba got ahold of it at that). Florida didnt have any deals to be had that I could see.. only sks I could find as well.

Just got back from the gun show and only saw two there. One from a distance and the second was an old beat up Yugo for $400. Poor thing. Another thought (related to this thread, as ammo is a necessary component in the "fair price for an SKS" equation in my book) begs the question, "What is a fair price for SKS ammo?" A couple of years ago I hear, 1000 rounds could be found for around 100 bucks. Now it is almost triple.

I just won my 2nd SKS off GB a few days ago. Got it for $237. It has a few chips in the stock but thats OK. I mainly bought this one to put it into the Chinese Fibergalss stock that I purchased about a month ago.

Went to a gunshow yesterday. There was a plethora of SKS' for sale I saw prices ranging from $300 (looked the death warmed over) up to $750( looked like it was in decent condition but was obviously well used).

Get it while you can...the main importers have discontinued importing SKS's about 8 months ago...no more are coming in....so the supply you now see (IF you can even find any) are the last ones around. I grabbed 6 for my store Bob's Cheap Guns and gun shows a few months back and was told by my distributors they were from the last batch to be imported...period.

What would a SKS with everything original and no stamp on it be worth. My dad took it off the enemy in Viet Nam.

Welcome cowboy778. Vet bringbacks are worth alot more than imports. The value of your dads would depend on "if he had bringback-trophy papers", and assuming the story is correct the country and manufacture year would also weigh in. Without the papers, the value drops closer to what the imports bring. There are many people who try to sell what they claim are war trophies but don't have the documentation and are going by what was told to them by a friend who knew the guy who used to date his sister.....photos would help with a description of markings.

SKS are still plentiful and cheap up here in Canada. I just picked up a Russian in nice shape for $250. Laminated stock Russians in real nice shape were 299. Ammo runs around $199 to $225 for the crate of 1120 rounds.

I have a chink SKS that I paid $275 for three new ones still in grease, mind you that was about 15 years ago. Went to a gun show this weekend in Indy and they where all priced around $ 340... kind wish I didn't give 2 away for x-mass gifts now.. None came w/bayonets but I picked 1up 4 $25 bucks. The bayonet does not hold the cleaning rod in on these guns, I think two offset holes is what holds the rod in... Fair price ( now days ) for such a fun gun.

$340 is getting close to the J&G price of Romanian AK47s with 500 rounds of 7.62x39. It might be time for SKSs to come down to reason too. For what it's worth, Yugo SKSs with accessories were selling for $239 at the military exchanges and for just a few dollars more in town just before the panic. Compared to the dropping AK47 prices going on, that is probably where SKS prices need to be again.
