| Animal Named Ammo....
Ok guys and girls out there, a little survey. Of all the animal ammos out there, wolf, golden tiger, golder bear, silver bear, brown bear, and I may have missed one or two. What do you folks find to be the best and the worst? All I have shot is the Wolf black box FMJ. Thank you for your time!

I've only shot Golden Tiger and Wolf(both lacquer and zinc coated) and I like the Golden Tiger more. I do have some boxes of Brown Bear lurking about I think, but I don't remember ever shooting it. I don't like to shoot several brands at one time. Messes with consistency.

Wolf polymer coated, black box (because the mil classic has the red lacquer that gets all over the inside of the action. It's clean, shoots well and doesn't ever stick. Not to mention it's "combat accurate" in so much as I hit a 18"x12" steel plate at 100 yards with 20 rounds in about 15 seconds out of my AES-10a.

if ya can find it you should try the pink lemming ammo... heehee jk! I have used just the wolf ammo in the black box to great effect, in both .223 and 7.62x39...

1. Golden Tiger 2. Not an animal name but I like Barnaul 3. Any of the Bear ammo, only difference is the coating. Take your choice Brass,Zinc or poly. I prefer the lacquer coating over any other if you can find it. 4. Shot some wolf in the past, seem to be the least accurate and most dirty in any of my SKS rifles.

I've only used Wolf and Komada. Wolf is cheaper, Komada (Yugoslavian) is more accurate by far.

I have shot a lot of wolf. Good ammo. After about three hundred or so rounds through the SKS one does need to blow out the chamber with brake cleaner though. Accurate and clean ammo to shoot.

| One of the Usual Suspects ![]() | Side question
I was going to shoot at a range in a state I will not identify, but one requirement was no Wolf ammo of any sort. What would be the reason behind this? Would it be some kind of private issue with Wolf, or is Wolf particularly dirty, or what. Don't mean to hi-jack the thread, just a side issue.

Wolf is the most well known com-bloc ammo, so it gets the most crap. It is dirty and is not very consistent. However, in terms of functioning, it's fine. I've shot a LOT of it in the past and it's always been good to me. I just prefer Golden Tiger over it. My rifles seem to do better with it. May or may not be 100% true, but it gives me a psychological edge.

The reason some ranges want allow Russian mfg. ammo is because the bullet jacket itself not the core is made of steel which can damage some backstops more so than the standard copper jacket would. It also has be known to cause sparks that might start a fire although I have never personally witnessed it. Some ranges also use it as an excuse to sell you the higher priced American brands which contain no steel. The only foreign ammo's that I know of that don't contain any steel in the jacket or core are the brass case Yugo surplus which is berdan primed and corrosive or Prvi-Partizan which is boxer primed and reloadable, and cost about 1/2 the price of its American counterpart. Prvi-Partizan is the same ammo mfg. that produced all the military ammo for the former Yugoslavia. All the Yugo surplus and Prvi ammo along with any of the American ammo will be non magnetic and range safe.

I have witnessed sparks on the concete strip the target stands are set in, using the 7.62X54R - haven't noticed it with any 7.62X39 though. Some ranges also don't like the steel cases littering the ground - rusts, can't be sold to recyclers, and plays havoc with the mowers.

I shot off 100 rds. of mil-classic the other day. I had 1 mis-fire. At the end of the day I reloaded it and it fired. My Mil-classic does not have the red laquer on them.

I find them all to be the same/similar. They go where I aim the sights if I do my part. I have used Golden Tiger, Wolf Mil Classic, Wolf Black Box, Hot Shot, and have a couple boxes of Remington FMJs even though they cost 2-3x more than the ones listed above.

Golden tiger is the best of the cheap rounds. I must say the most useful of the cheap rounds is the soft point wolf performance ammo with the 154 grain bullets. These actually make the SKS a great little white tail gun.
