| A few SKS Questions
I am seriously considering a SKS purchase soon (in the next few months). I have a few questions about them to make me a smarter shopper. A. Are there any variants I should stay away from? ie any country or factory in particular known to be shoddy. B. Cherry Norincos are going for about 300$ here in my area, how much more should I expect to pay for a russian? Also, how much less for a yugo or albanian? C. My wife prefers the paratrooper carbines...how much accuracy and distance is sacrificed by the shorter barreled SKS? D. I would prefer a russian just to complement my MN collection, are russians at all available anymore, or is it just a fluke or work of chance to find one? Thanks in advance for all replies...sorry if these have all been covered, I never have any luck with the search feature LOL.

A...Not that I am aware of... B...Russians run 350.00 to 450.00 when you can find one.. Yugos are now 250.00 to 350.00...Albanian I'm Not sure of. C. Not much accuracy wise , just a little velocity is sacrificed. D. They are out there , there used to be lots of Russians till the Import was stopped...Look at Gun shows. The Russians are the best because of Non-Pinned Barrels in My opinion , the Norincos are Mostly Pinned. Rich

You will pay a premium for a Russian. Ive had two and sold them both for over 500. the chinese is the best bet right now for cheap shooters. They come and they go, but I have all ways liked Norinco.

I have a Norinco SKS and must say the finish is total crap and it was unfired until I was able to pick it up. If you want a good gun, pay extra for a russian so a refinish won't be needed in the short run. The plethora of aftermarket stocks makes tarting one up an easy and fun experiance.

LOL I don't care if a norinco isn't pretty, I have some krylon for that! I may get a cheaper one now, and play with it, accessories and such, then keep a eye open for a russian in good shape. I'm mainly getting one because my wife likes shooting my brother's, and all ya'll in the survival forums don't think my BAs are "adequate" LMAO...hate for the zombies to show up and me be undergunned somehow! p.s. I cannot be hijacked...I like gun porn, so bring it on!

I have 2 norinco's and I love em. Cheaper than the russians. Go for the norinco. Especially if you plan on changing stuff up.

Are you collectin? shooting? etc. Most Norincos I've seen, including my own are milled recievers and are NOT pinned. If you're shooting? (I'm gonna get flack for this) Get a Norinco. It's cheaper to buy and not a collectors gun so "bubba" away. The past few times I've been to the range, there have been a lot of SKS shooters their. We tended to congregate together and compare accuracy. Norinco, Russian, Romanian and Yugos. Mine was the norinco. It was more accurate and consistant than the others. I let some of the other guys shoot mine (they all wanted to shoot it so I let them If you're collecting? Russian first! |

Does anyone have or know where to get a stock mag for the SKS for anything less than $40 shipped?
